What is Softserve?

Softserve is a modpack put together with the sole purpose of fixing, improving, and overhauling many of the features of vanilla Minecraft that I and many others have seen as problematic or lacking.

That doesn’t mean it doesn’t add anything new and fun to the game though.

What does it change or add?

There’s a lot to list, but here’s most of it:

  1. More realistic and immersive environmental ambiance
  2. Falling anvils crush many blocks and process them into different ones
  3. Quality of life UI, UX, and gameplay changes
  4. Enchanting is now like most RPG leveling systems, instead of gambling
  5. Lots of new redstone gadgets for more complex and useful contraptions
  6. New tool & armor materials to fill in a gap in progression
  7. LAN worlds become hosted servers for friends to join you
  8. Vertical Slabs and many other new building blocks for more detailed builds
  9. Mining hammers for larger scale excavation at a higher material cost
  10. Per player instanced loot containers so nobody misses out
  11. Ores can spawn inside more types of rock, making them slightly more common
  12. Terrain generation is much more vertical and dynamic
  13. Rivers and streams flow through terrain more realistically
  14. Copper pipes for quicker item transport, as well as fluid, smoke, and even vibration transport
  15. Grappling Hooks that behave realistically, letting you swing around freely

Don’t worry though,

if you ever feel lost, you spawn with a book full of links and helpful info.

What makes this different from other Vanilla+ modpacks?

Instead of piling on content modslike most “kitchen sink” modpacks,

Softserve aims to be more deliberate with each piece of added content,
making sure to target parts of the game that actually need attention.

Why VulkanMod instead of Sodium?

There’s a variety of reasons:

  1. OpenGL is an old and discontinued rendering pipeline
  2. Mojang themselves are switching to Vulkan for future game updates
  3. Raw FPS gains are significantly higher on Vulkan vs Sodium

I also personally prefer it as I have an AMD GPU, which runs Vulkan much better.

This still feels like a “Kitchen Sink” modpack.

This modpack is still in active development, and I am all ears on any feedback provided.

The most helpful kind of feedback to me would be detailed and include suggested solutions.

Softserve 支持哪些 Minecraft 版本？

Softserve 基于 Minecraft Java 版 1.21.11，使用 Fabric 加载器。

Softserve 怎么安装？

点本页「前往下载」拿到整合包文件（Modrinth 的是 .mrpack，CurseForge 的是 .zip），在 PCL2 或 HMCL 启动器里选择「导入整合包」，启动器会自动装好 Minecraft、加载器和全部模组。这个整合包有 140 个模组，建议在启动器里给游戏分配 4–6 GB 内存。

Softserve 开服需要多大内存？

推荐服务器内存 12 GB。在线人数多、或者建了大量机器和区块加载器时，可以再加 2–4 GB。

怎么和朋友一起玩 Softserve？

点本页的「一键开服」，选好配置后会自动安装 Softserve 的服务端，几分钟就能开好。把服务器地址发给朋友，大家用同一个版本的整合包连进去就行。
