Dead Explorers

Not every expedition makes it home.

Out in the frozen wastes, the scorching deserts and the open savanna, explorers set off without enough food, water or warm clothing, and they never came back. Dead Explorers scatters their bodies across your world, each one with a backpack full of the supplies that couldn’t save them.

Find one, search the backpack, and take what you need. Just be careful, because some of them were left as a trap.

🧭 What you’ll find

Every explorer is dressed for the place they died in, and you can tell from how each body is lying what their last moments were like.

❄️ Snowy Explorers

Found in: Snowy Plains, Ice Spikes, Snowy Taiga, Snowy Slopes, Grove and Snowy Beach

Curled up on their side, trying to keep warm. They wear a red parka, trousers, boots, gloves, a beanie and a scarf over the face, with a sleeping roll strapped to the pack.

🏜️ Desert Explorers

Found in: Desert, Badlands, Eroded Badlands and Wooded Badlands

Lying on their back, still holding their backpack. They’re wearing only light linen trousers, because the heat was too much.

🌳 Savanna Explorers

Found in: Savanna, Savanna Plateau and Windswept Savanna

Sitting hunched against the foot of a tree with the backpack on their lap. They wear a light khaki shirt and trousers and a safari hat.

💀 Skeletons… and the recently departed

Some explorers died long ago and are now just skeletons. Others are more recent: human bodies with their eyes closed and one of 24 different faces, with a range of skin tones, hairstyles, beards, scars and freckles. Some have lost their hats, too.

🎒 Searching a body

• Right-click an explorer to open their backpack and take what’s inside.
• Tools from a backpack are worn and damaged, because they’ve been through a lot.
• The backpack is part of the body, so you can’t pick it up.

💣 Booby traps!

Around 1 in 4 explorers are booby trapped. Is it worth the risk? There’s only one way to find out…

📋 Good to know

• Install it on both the client and the server.
• Bodies only appear in newly generated chunks, so explore new land in an existing world to find them.
• Works on its own and doesn’t need any other mods.
