Every village has a secret on its outskirts.

Just beyond the last houses stands an old, forgotten well. Its roof is draped in cobwebs, a rusty chain hangs into the darkness and the bottom is too far down to see. Nobody in the village talks about it. Maybe you should find out why…

🪣 What You’ll Find

An old well near every village Each well sits on a flat, dry spot on the edge of a village, so it never cuts through anyone’s house. It’s built to match the village it belongs to:

• 🌾 Plains: cobblestone, mossy stone bricks and an oak roof
• 🏜️ Desert: sandstone with a sandstone roof
• 🦒 Savanna: cobblestone, terracotta and acacia
• 🌲 Taiga: mossy cobblestone and spruce
• ❄️ Snowy: stone bricks, packed ice and a snow-capped spruce roof

A seriously deep shaft The hole is 5×5 and drops anywhere from 30 to 100 blocks straight down. You won’t know how deep a well is until you’re on your way down.

The chain and bucket A chain hangs from under the roof almost all the way to the bottom and ends in an old wooden bucket.

A ladder you can’t trust There’s a ladder on one wall. But it has gaps! 😬

💀 At the Bottom…

Something might be waiting for you down there. It could be creepers, endermen, spiders… or nothing at all. Every well is different.

Hidden in one of the walls, just above the floor, is an old oak door…

🚪 The Corridor

Behind the door, a narrow corridor runs into the dark. A single torch flickers at the far end. Under it you might find a barrel of loot, but some wells have already been emptied.

But watch your step as some corridors are trapped!

💰 The Loot

If you make it to the barrel in one piece, you could find:

• Gold ingots and gold nuggets
• Iron ingots and iron nuggets
• Books
• A fishing rod
• Old wooden and stone tools
• Charcoal, sticks and a few seeds
• A poisonous potato (someone’s idea of a joke)

And very rarely… ✨ diamonds or 💜 amethyst shards.

🔎 Good to Know

• Wells only appear in newly generated chunks, so start a new world or explore somewhere you haven’t been yet.
• Can’t find one? In creative mode or with cheats on, use: /locate structure abandonedwell:abandoned_well
• Works on single player and servers. On a server, the mod must be installed on both the server and the client.
• No new blocks or items, just vanilla ones. It fits right into any world.
