# RuthlessVillains

RuthlessVillains is a Forge mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 that adds a bunch of mechanics designed to make survival harder. Mobs get smarter, the environment works against you, and everyday items can’t always be trusted.

The mod is mostly server-side friendly and works fine in singleplayer. It needs Forge 47.2.0 or newer and has no dependencies.

## Mobs

• Zombies that can’t reach you will dig under walls to get in
  – Zombies and skeletons climb walls like spiders
  – Skeletons shoot with sniper-level accuracy
  – Creepers learn from your behavior
  – Villagers fight back with melee attacks
  – Iron golems turn on their creators
  – Baby mobs summon zombie swarms
  – Wolves get hungry, animals escape when hurt, sheep charge in groups
  – Some zombies sprint, some skeletons fire three arrows at once
  – Casting a fishing rod has a chance to yank you toward the bobber

## Environment

• Breaking a hay bale detonates it
  – Active furnaces ignite nearby blocks and set entities on fire
  – Lava spreads upward near players
  – Grass, walls, and some blocks collapse when stepped on
  – Trees fall when chopped, doors explode, glass shatters
  – Ladders, tools, and coal are fragile or flammable
  – Boats sink, water buckets are unstable, water clutching is blocked
  – Ice breaks under you and swimming controls get reversed
  – Deserts burn you during the day, nights freeze you
  – Food spoils, torches burn out, wood rots over time

## Inventory & Progression

• The enchanting table randomizes your enchantments instead of applying what you picked
  – Crafting recipes shuffle
  – Chests, hoppers, and furnaces sometimes keep items for themselves
  – Items move around your inventory on their own
  – Some iron ore is fake, some End portals are fake, some strongholds are decoys
  – Trading with villagers has a chance to steal from you instead
  – On death you may respawn at a random bed in the world

• Standing in open air applies a debuff
  – Memory chests remember what was taken and react
  – Horses periodically pick their own direction and can throw you off
  – Creepers launch you into the air when they explode
  – Picking up items can shift your hotbar
  – Gold items can fall out of your inventory

## Performance

World scans are limited to the area around players and run on tick intervals instead of every tick, so the mod doesn’t tank TPS on populated servers.
