Grudge Graves: Gravestones That Remember Your Killer

Your grave remembers who killed you.

When you die, everything you carry goes into a grave where you fell. The mob that killed you does not wander off: it stays to guard the grave as your Grudge. Beat it yourself and everything comes straight back to your hands.

A grave that keeps everything

• Every stack goes back to its own slot: armor back on, sword back on its hotbar key.
• All your XP is kept (vanilla drops at most 100 points). Server owners choose the share.
• Never lost. No block is placed, so lava, creepers and explosions cannot touch it. Die in the void and the grave waits on the last ground you stood on. Die in lava and it floats above it.
• A Grave Compass when you respawn, a thin beam of light above the grave, the coordinates in chat, and /graves to list them.
• Walk into your grave (or right-click it) to get everything back.

The Grudge

• The zombie, skeleton or spider that killed you gets a name, a shard of glass on its head and +25% health, and stays by your grave.
• It guards, it does not hunt: it never follows you home.
• It gets tired. Kill you once more and it weakens; twice and it gives up and the grave is free. Nobody gets stuck in a death loop.
• Bosses, pets and named mobs never become a Grudge. Beat it and keep its Grudge Notes as a souvenir.

For servers

• Server-side. Players without the mod can join and see the grave, the compass and the Grudge.
• /graves all, /graves restore <player> and /graves reload for operators.
• config/grudge-graves.properties: turn the Grudge off, change its leash and health, the share of XP, the beam.

Tested in game

• Fabric 26.3, Fabric 26.2 and NeoForge 26.2: a scripted run inside the game on each version – killed by a zombie while in full diamond with 30 levels, the grave kept all 12 stacks and every point of XP; the Grudge guarded it and, once beaten, everything came back to its slot; lava and void deaths left a safe grave; the Grudge tired out and gave up after two more kills.
