The Neighbor

A small horror mod. It knows where you sleep.

Every bed you lie down in, something remembers. Some nights, when you’re near one of those beds, you’ll hear two knocks. Not on your door. Close by, though.

Then it’s standing behind you.

How it works

• It only moves when you aren’t looking. Keep your eyes on it and it freezes. Look away and it walks toward you, fast.
• You can’t kill it. Hitting it makes it leave. So does staring it down from far enough away, or sunrise.
• Up close, staring isn’t enough. If it gets near, it just waits for you to blink.
• If it reaches you, it hurts. Ten damage and a few seconds of blindness by default.
• Dying doesn’t make it forget. It remembers your last five beds.

There’s no spawn egg, no natural spawning and no boss bar. It only visits players who sleep, at night, in the Overworld, on Easy or harder.

Config

config/theneighbor-common.toml

• visitOdds: how often visits start. Lower means more often (default: about three minutes into the night).
• bedRadius: how close to a remembered bed it can find you (default 64).
• damage: how hard it hits (default 10).

Info

• Forge 1.20.1, needed on both client and server. Works in multiplayer, where each player gets their own visitor.
• Fine to use in modpacks.
