BSP-Core

The mod at the heart of the Build Secure Protect modpack. Build a base, secure it, protect your Shatter Totem, and go and take everyone else’s! Every block, machine and screen in here is about the totem: keeping yours, stealing theirs, getting rich enough to upgrade it, or forging a second one. This page runs in the order you meet things: your first minute, the road to a strong totem, the money, the market and the lottery, the plasma, the raids and the forge, your team, and then what the server owner sets up behind it all.

  • Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47 or newer, Java 17. Needed on the client and the server.
  • Plays well with JEI or EMI (every recipe and machine job), Patchouli (the in-game guide book), Jade (block info), any RF mod (power for the machines), LuckPerms (ranks on kits), and the pack’s crushers: Mekanism, Create, Thermal, Ender IO, Railcraft, Integrated Dynamics and Electrodynamics all turn BSP ingots into dust. Tinkers’ Construct and Thermal melt and cast BSP metal, never for more than our own machines give, and any mod’s pipes and tanks carry the molten metals. The Totem Forge’s metal bill asks for Allthemodium ingots by default.
  • Made for the other BSP mods: BSP-Teleport, BSP Region Guard, BSP-RankUp, BSP-InventorySync and BSP-Velocity Additions all plug into it. It runs fine without them.

Your first minute

The Shatter Totem

The moment you join you get a Shatter Totem, the guide book and 500 Shatter Pieces in the bank. Apart from the Totem Forge at the very end of the road, that is the only way to get a totem. Place it and it projects your base powers in a cube around it. Carry it and it powers you. Keep it somewhere clever, because anyone who finds it can stand beside it for five minutes and walk off with it, powers and all. You get a warning the second they start. There is no power, block or trick that makes a totem safe, and we are never adding one. You cannot hide it in a storage system either: it comes straight back out. If you crash with it in your hands it is placed where you stood, and it is back in your hands when you return, as long as nobody took it in between.

32 powers on five tiers

Thirty-two powers on six paths, bought with Shatter Coins and XP. Carried powers work while the totem is on you, Base powers come from a placed totem, and Raid powers help you take someone else’s. Up to eight friends on the ACCESS tab can pass your Alarm and Ward and use your machines, and your whole team can do all of that and upgrade your totem too.

The road ahead

The road from Tetrium to Illyrium

Three metals, each slower than the last, and a machine for every step. That is the whole thing in one picture; the next sections walk it top to bottom.

Ores

Where the metals come from

Tetrium: where you start

Tetrium: the first metal
Tetrium Crucible and Combination Forge

Tetrium is everywhere and it is quick. A crucible, a forge, and you are making plates, chassis and circuits: the parts every later machine is built from. Hang on to the slag, it becomes the bricks in every chassis.

Recipes 1 of 11: Tetrium

Illyrium: slow and worth it

Illyrium: slow and valuable

Illyrium comes one nugget at a time: smelt the ore in lava, crush the dirty ingot, wash the dust, alloy it back. Nine nuggets and the best part of an hour make one ingot. The dirty metal is useful on its own: it presses the dies that build the coin factory and the centrifuge.

Magnatite: the metal in between

Magnatite: the metal in between

The Magnetic Centrifuge separates the ore, and with a coil in it charges the ingots: a gamble that gets better with every layer you stack on top. Charged Magnatite and Carbon Dust go into every cable, battery and plasma block.

Shatter Coins: real time, no shortcuts

Shatter Coins: real time, no shortcuts

Coins buy totem tiers and powers, and you press them yourself, in real hours: 8 for Copper, 96 for Illyrium. The factory keeps pressing while you are offline, and a Coin Vault pays interest on what you keep in it. Rivals can pick the vault for a quarter of the coins.

Shatter Pieces, the bank and the shops

bank atm

Pieces are the everyday money, and they are never an item: nobody can steal them. Every player has a bank account, and every day you play, 50 pieces land in it by themselves: at your first login of the day, or at midnight if you are online. Walk up to a Shatter Bank, the ATM the server puts at spawn, and you can pay anyone by name, read your log, and deposit coins. Coins kept in the bank are safe from thieves and stay coins, or you convert them to pieces, a thousand a Copper. A Portable Banker in your pocket does the same anywhere. Once it has unlocked the Shopping Network, every shop flagged for it opens from wherever you stand, and once it has unlocked the market, so does the market. Rent a Safety Deposit Box by the day for the things you cannot afford to lose; a totem is the one thing it will not take.

shop screen

Shops are wherever the server puts them: a Vendor Post with a figure of the server’s choosing, a Market Stall in one of eight styles, or a Stall Display floating the wares above it. Every shop is a page of cards: the item, buy in gold, sell dim, and a star for instant buy. Left click buys, right click sells, shift-right sells every full stack. A card can limit how much each player, or everyone together, may buy or sell, and its corner shows what is left: “3/4”, or OUT and FULL at zero. Limits come back on their own, after a while, every day, every week or at each rotation, and on a network they count once across every server. Some cards wait for a rank or hours of play and say what they need; a note at the foot of a card tells you what it is for. A card can buy back used machines, energy, upgrades and all, as long as they are whole and hold nothing. Big shops have a search box that looks through every section, or every card of a mod with “@create”, and special offers cut prices until a time.

challenge chat

Rotating shops put a few of their cards on show at a time. They can change at a fixed time, every Monday at midnight say, with every card getting its turn before any comes back, and when they change, every player on every server hears what is on offer now.

land office

With BSP Region Guard on the server, the Land Office sells land. Its screen is a map of the ground around you drawn from the terrain: plots for sale in amber, open ground dashed, your own claims in green, the outline you drew with the wand in white. Click a plot for its size and price, then BUY, ENLARGE or GIVE UP. When Region Guard sells land for Shatter Coins, every price reads in coins (“3 gold coins”) and the foot of the screen shows the coins you carry: you pay from your inventory and get change.

Trading and the market

trade post market

The server puts Trade Posts at spawn: a steel trading desk with a screen under a hood, a pair of scales that tips while a trade runs, and four labelled keys, MARKET, SELL, COLLECT and TRADE. The market is one market for the whole network. List up to 9 stacks as one lot for a price in pieces, and it stays up for a week, up to 10 lots at a time; anyone on any server can buy it, and you are paid the moment it sells. Listing costs 5% of the price and buying costs the price plus 5%, and both go into the lottery pot. Lots that run out or that you cancel wait in your Collect box. Search by item or seller, sort by newest, cheapest or dearest, and click a lot to see every stack with its full tooltip before you buy. Unlock the market on your Portable Banker, once, for 12 Netherite Shatter Coins, and you can browse, buy, list and collect from anywhere.

trade screen

Everyone at a Trade Post shows down the side of the screen with the server they are on. Pick a name, press TRADE, and if they accept you both get the trade screen: 12 places and a pieces box each, and their offer changing live in front of you. Any change turns both READY lights off, so nobody gets switched on at the last second; when both are ready a five-second countdown locks it all in. If either of you is short of room nothing moves. Walk away, log out or die and the trade is off, with everything back where it came from. A Shatter Totem and a Totem Core can never be sold or traded, not even in a shulker box.

wanted cards

Want something nobody is selling? Ask for it. Press WANTED beside FOR SALE and the market shows what people want instead: every buy order as a card with who wants it, the price each and how many are still to go, and the ones you could fill from your inventory light up.

wanted fill

Open one, pick how many to send and press FILL. The items leave your inventory and you are paid at once, less the 5% tax. Orders fill a bit at a time from anyone on any server, and everything sent waits in the buyer’s Collect box.

wanted new

To place one, press + NEW ORDER, find the item by name and set how many (up to 9 stacks) and what you pay for each. The whole price comes out of your bank straight away and is held for the order; cancel it, or let its week run out, and whatever was not spent comes back. Up to 10 orders at a time, plain items only (no enchantments, damage or names), and never a totem or a Totem Core.

The lottery

lottery page

All that market tax, and half of everything players spend at the shops, goes into one lottery pot for the whole network, and one player takes the lot. There are no tickets: everyone who has played on the network in the past week is in, one equal chance each (staff and operators are left out). The LOTTERY tab on every Trade Post shows the pot, a drum turning through the names of everyone in, your own chance, and the last five winners.

lottery chat

An admin draws it whenever they like. Every server counts down from 5 in chat while the drum spins, then names the winner, and the whole pot goes straight into their bank, even if they are offline (they hear about it when they log in). Then the pot starts filling again.

lottery banker

Your Portable Banker shows the pot, your chance and the last winner on its account page, so you can keep an eye on it from anywhere.

Wave Plasma: your totem, on tap

Wave Plasma: the totem's power on tap

A placed totem gives off Wave Plasma. Pipe it and your base powers appear wherever the cable ends. Feed it into a Plasma Injector and a machine runs up to three times faster. Bottle it in a battery and your base keeps running while the totem is away, or stolen. Put a cell in the Wave Emitter and carry your powers without carrying the totem. A tank holds millions of mB of it for the lean times, and remembers which powers the plasma carried.

Plasma across worlds

plasma accelerator

Seven Accelerator Frames round an Accelerator Intake, standing up with the middle empty, and you have a Plasma Accelerator: an octagon with a copper track, eight coil heads and a black sphere turning in a brass cage. Write a Link Card on it, put the card in a Decelerator Core in any other world of the server, and the plasma hops across, powers, access list and all. The port behind the core sends it on to whatever its cables reach, so a Nether outpost runs on an Overworld totem and keeps its chunks loaded through the link. Both ends drink RF; without it nothing moves. Right-click the intake for the Worlds board, one column per world, with every link lit while plasma passes.

Decoys, traps and the compass

Decoys, the compass and traps

A Decoy Totem looks like the real thing to everyone but you, pulls rival compasses toward it, and goes off like a trap when they try to steal it. Range coils, five kinds of charge, an amplifier and reinforced casings go in its sockets. Your own Totem Compass points home, or for a while at the nearest rival.

The Totem Forge: a second totem

The Totem Forge: a second totem

The end of the road. Build the 2 by 2 by 3 forge, melt a whole bill of metals into its tanks (128 Tetrium, 32 Magnatite, 8 Charged Magnatite, 12 Illyrium, 32 Allthemodium, 16 Vibranium, 8 Unobtainium and 2 Netherite ingots), fill the mould piece by piece, put the Totem Core on top and press POUR. If you own no totem the pour is free and the new one sets in 5 days of real time; if you do, you pay 4 Illyrium Coins’ worth for each totem you own and it takes 15. One pour at a time per player, across the network. When it has set it is yours to take out, and everyone else’s to steal: two and a half minutes beside the forge, while you are warned in game and on Discord. Molten Tetrium, Illyrium and Magnatite come in buckets and run through any mod’s pipes, and the mould pieces last three pours.

Herald: your totem calls you on Discord

herald discord

Not in the game when someone starts on your totem? Give it Herald, the Base power straight after Alarm, and the BSP Discord bot messages you the moment the game would warn you: the server, the spot, the thief and the seconds left. When it is over you get another: stolen, or saved and why. A thief’s Shroud holds the message back exactly as it holds back the in-game warning. Every steal on the network also gets one line in the BSP Discord’s alert channel, “A totem is being stolen on Frostwarf”, and not a word more.

herald card

Linking takes ten seconds: /bsp discord link, or LINK on Herald’s card, gives you a six-letter code, and you type /link and the code in the BSP Discord. You never type a Discord name or password into the game, and the game never sees your Discord details. If your DMs are closed, nothing is posted anywhere; the game tells you at your next login.

Tripwire: your totem runs your redstone

tripwire tree

Doors that slam on strangers and never on your friends! Tripwire, the Base power after Alarm, turns your placed totem into a redstone source. While anyone who isn’t you, your team, your allies or a friend on its access list is in range, it gives a full signal out of all six sides, so dust, lamps, doors and pistons wired straight to it fire. The range grows with your totem: 16 blocks at Tier II, 32 at III, 64 at IV and 128 at V, each a little dearer. The signal holds for three seconds after the last one leaves, so nothing flickers.

tripwire card

NEXT on Tripwire’s card picks a shorter range or switches it off, so a 128-block totem can still guard just the front door. Only you, your team and friends with the Upgrades switch can see or change it, and a thief’s Thief’s Step only slips past a Tripwire set at or below its own level.

tripwire studs

Every totem and every Decoy has eight lamp studs round its base. They glow red while the signal is on, so nobody can tell from outside which totems are wired. A totem only watches while its chunk is loaded, so anchor it if you want the long ranges to catch someone out at the edge.

Teams

teams screen

One team per player, a leader and up to five members, a name and a colour. Teammates have full access to each other’s totems: open the panel, buy upgrades and raise the tier (the buyer pays), change chunks, use the plasma machines and projectors, see through the cloak, walk through the Ward and Alarm. Nobody in a team can steal from it, and the compass ignores teammates’ totems. The screen opens from the TEAM tab on any totem of yours or a teammate’s, from the TEAM button above your inventory, or from a key you bind.

teams invite

Inviting takes one click on a name, and the invite lands as a card at the top right with two keys and a minute to answer, a chime, and a clickable line in chat for a player busy in a screen.

teams messages

TEAM CHAT sends what you type to the team until you switch back, with a pill above the chat while it is on; /t sends one line. Everything said goes on the team’s board, so members who were offline read it when they are back, under the leader’s pinned note. On a network the team is one team on every server, and the member list says which server a teammate is on. With BSP-Teleport installed there is a TELEPORT key on every online teammate’s row.

Alliances

ally allies

A team can ally with up to two other teams. Allies get their own chat (ALLY CHAT, /a, and a board for whoever was away), and the ALLIES page shows every allied player: the server and dimension they are in, and their exact block when their team chooses to share it. Your team’s leader names the alliance on the Team screen’s ALLIANCE tab and invites the others, and the invite reaches their leader on any server.

ally perks

Each team picks what its allies get on its totems, all off to start: see through its cloaks, walk past its Ward, keep its Alarm quiet, use its machines and plasma. Upgrading, picking up and recalling a totem stay yours.

ally break

An alliance can be betrayed. An ally who starts a steal on an ally’s totem throws their own team out on the spot, and its perks stop. The steal goes ahead but takes half as long again, so the others have time to come. Everyone in the alliance gets a red card and the chat lines, and the thief’s team cannot ally with any of them for a day. Leaving first doesn’t help: for a day after a team leaves, a steal on the teams it left counts the same.

Kits

kits browser

Kits are bundles the server hands out: at your first login, as a reward when you reach a rank, or from the kit browser behind the KITS button above your inventory. Every kit is a card. A ready one has REDEEM on it. One you took lately sits grey with the time until it is ready again. A locked one says why: the rank to reach, with your own step marked on the ladder, the server to be on, the price against your balance, or the slots you need to free. A kit given to you that did not fit, or came while you were away, waits in violet with TAKE IT. Nothing is ever lost: a kit never goes into an inventory that cannot take it, and the price is only charged after that check.

kits card

Click a card’s picture to see what is inside, with the counts, and every condition ticked or crossed.

Scores, seasons and the screens

score boards

Every totem you own scores by its tier, so stealing and upgrading both move you up. Score Screens at spawn show the live leaderboard, the season’s rules and the prizes, and can carry boards from the other BSP mods, such as BSP-Teleport’s Home Servers, and turn through all of it, page by page. The Market Board shows the newest lots on the market with their prices, a second after they are listed on any server, the Wanted Board shows the buy orders, best pay first, so one screen can show what is for sale and the next what people want, and the Lottery board rolls the names of everyone in beside the pot and the last winners. An admin sneaks and right-clicks a screen for its settings: Show it as the scoreboard, the rules, the prizes, one Board, or Rotate through pages; pick the board (‹ and › turn through them when there are more than fit), its look (Ledger rows, Tiles, or a Side column beside the leaderboard), which pages are in the rotation and how many seconds each stays. When a season ends the top three take the prizes, every totem is removed and everyone starts again with a fresh Tier I totem; prizes wait for you if you were offline.

For server owners

Vault, screens and admin blocks

  • One config file, serverconfig/bsp_core-server.toml: every cost, time, range, limit and price, the bank, the shops, the market, the Totem Forge, teams, alliances and kits. The database and Redis passwords live apart in config/bsp_core-network.toml, which is never sent to players.
  • Admin Rack, or /bsp admin: every player on the network with their totems on every server, position, vault and score, teleport and reset, a box to set a player’s score by hand (or /bsp score set <player> <points>; it rides on top of their totems and clears with the season), the season end that pays the top three and hands everyone a fresh totem, decoy ranges, chunk loading, and the KITS tab. /bsp totem wipe <player> gives a test account a clean slate, /bsp totem give <player> hands out a totem, and a totem an admin deletes in creative mode is gone for good.
  • Shops are yours to build. /bsp shop opens the Workbench: shops, pages, cards, prices, limits and their refills, rotations, notes, hours, styles and the network flag, all in a screen. A whole price list goes in with /bsp shop import <file>: the file is checked from top to bottom first and refused whole on any mistake, test shows what it would do, and a price fix keeps everyone’s counts. /bsp shop export writes shops back out, and /bsp shop report shows what every shop paid out and took in, with a spreadsheet of every card. Cards and whole shops can ask for a LuckPerms rank or hours of play. Vendor Posts, Market Stalls, Stall Displays, the Shatter Bank, the Safety Deposit Box, the Land Office and the Trade Post are admin-placed blocks: nobody mines, pushes or blows them up.

kits admin
kits editor

  • The market is yours to tune: lot size, lots and buy orders per player, days listed and the tax, items it refuses (ids or #tags), and the Portable Banker’s unlock price. /bsp market lists lots and buy orders, shows the pot, cancels a lot or an order, ends the overdue ones and opens a player’s Collect box. The Totem Forge’s bill, pour time, setting times, coin price and steal time are all in the config too.
  • The lottery is yours to run. The ADMIN key on a Trade Post’s LOTTERY tab, or /bsp lottery admin anywhere, opens the admin page: everyone seen this season, IN or OUT and why, how many days back a player must have played (7 by default), the LuckPerms ranks to leave out, ADD and TAKE with a reason for the log, and DRAW, which asks twice. /bsp lottery shows the same in chat, and draw, add and take do the same from the console. Only one draw runs at a time across the network. The shops’ share of each purchase is shop.lotteryPercent (50 by default) and the daily login reward is bank.dailyRewardPieces (50 by default; 0 turns either off).

lottery admin

  • Kits are made in the panel. The KITS tab lists them; the editor has the kit’s slots, FROM HAND and FROM INVENTORY for enchanted items, an item browser with search and a chip per mod, and every rule as a row of chips: when it is given, whether it is in the browser, once or every so often, the price, the LuckPerms ranks (RankUp’s ladder, when RankUp is installed), the servers. TEST ON ME tries it on you; GIVE TO hands it to a player.

anti totem block

  • Anti Totem Block: keeps totems and chosen machines out of spawn, hubs and arenas, and tells BSP-Teleport where homes and teleports are not allowed.
  • Servers without totem placement: list the safe servers of the network (spawn, a saferoom, a sanctuary) in restrictions.noTotemServers. Totems can be carried there but never placed or dropped, and one carried at logout goes back to its owner’s last spot on a server that allows placement, so nobody parks a totem out of reach by logging off somewhere safe.
  • Networks: MySQL or MariaDB shares totems, limits, the leaderboard, vault totals, seasons, steal warnings, bank accounts, deposit boxes, shops with their stock, limits and rotating cards, the market and its buy orders, the lottery and the daily reward, teams and alliances with their invites, kits and the admin panel across every server, and Totem Forge pours count once per player; add Redis and all of it is live, live trades between servers included. A kit taken on one server is taken everywhere; a team or an alliance made on one exists on all, and allies see each other’s whereabouts across servers. /bsp team alliances lists the alliances and /bsp team dissolve ends one.
  • Discord steal warnings: turn on discord.enabled and give each server its discord.serverName. The alerts travel over the network’s Redis to the Discord bot in BSP-Velocity Additions on the proxy, which alone holds the bot’s token: no game server ever has one.
  • The other BSP mods reach everything through com.mrgregles.bsp_core.api: totems, steals, seasons, teams and alliances, kits, the bank, the market and trades, zones and transfers between servers. BSP-RankUp hands out kits as rank rewards and its playtime unlocks shop cards, BSP-Teleport moves teammates between servers, Region Guard sells the land, BSP-Velocity Additions carries the chat between servers and runs the Discord bot.

Status

1.11.0 is the current release: Tripwire, which turns your totem into a redstone sensor for outsiders, on top of alliances between teams, with their own chat, each other’s whereabouts, the perks each team chooses to give and a price for betrayal, on top of buy orders on the Trade Post and the Wanted Board on the Score Screens, scores an admin can set by hand, the lottery, drawn by an admin and won whole by one player, a daily login reward, the Trade Post with its network-wide market and live trades, the Totem Forge with its molten metals, the spawn shops with their limits, rotations, ranks and search, Herald and the Discord steal warnings, the bank and shops, plasma across worlds, teams, kits, the boards on the Score Screens, servers without totem placement and land for Shatter Coins. Every picture on this page is drawn from the mod’s own models, textures, recipes and screens, so what you see is what you get in game. Report problems at https://github.com/Mrgregles/BSP-Core/issues, and come and play it on BSP!
