Waybound Grimoire – Magic Teleportation & Fast Travel

A teleport mod where you travel by casting a spell.
Place anchors, open your Grimoire, pick where to go and cast. Your pets and friends can come with you.

Beta: everything works and is tested, but the mod is new. If something looks wrong, tell me in the comments or on the issue tracker.

• Teleporting is a spell. You stand still while it charges. A rune circle grows under you, and you arrive in a column of light. If you get hit, the spell breaks.
• Anchors are your travel points. Name them and choose who can use them: only you, your friends, or everyone.
• Book or Waystaff. The Grimoire comes in two forms and 4 tiers. Pick the cover wood, the gem and the trim. Higher tiers look fancier.
• Pets come along: tamed pets, leashed animals and your horse (modded ones too).
• Travel with friends. Visit or summon other players. Friends don’t get asked every time. With Fellowship, everyone standing in your circle travels with you.
• Runestones upgrade anchors: Warding, Restoration, Resonance, Beacon (a light column you see from far away) and Rift (travel between dimensions).
• 9 enchantments, for example Swift Casting, Frugal and Aegis, a shield that protects you while you cast.
• Durability: each cast wears the Grimoire a little. It never breaks, it just stops working until you repair it with amethyst shards. Unbreaking and Mending work on it.
• Extras: 20 Lost Pages to collect, 12 advancements and rare sigils.

A trip costs XP, takes a few seconds to cast and has a short cooldown.
You can’t cast while gliding, swimming, in a boat or minecart, or sitting behind someone on a horse.

You’ll find anchors out in the world too. Anyone can use them.
Most villages have one, in a small plaza or shrine built in the village’s style.
About half of the pillager outposts have one, and a few stand in Nether fortresses, bastions and End cities.
Rare ruins hide in plains, meadows, flower forests and cherry groves: broken white pillars in a field of flowers, with an anchor in the middle.
The Nether has its own ruins, made of blackstone and basalt.

• Waystones: your waystones show up in the Grimoire next to your anchors, and using a waystone opens the same travel screen. Waystones that would spawn in the world are left out (the ones you place stay). Village waystones become anchor plazas. You can change both in the config.
• JourneyMap, Xaero’s Minimap / World Map: anchors show as waypoints.
• Distant Horizons: Beacon anchors stay visible far away.
• Jade, JEI, REI, EMI: tooltips and recipes.
• Curios, Accessories, Trinkets: cast from a belt slot. A worn Waystaff shows on your back.
• Open Parties and Claims, FTB Chunks & Teams: party members count as friends, claims are respected.
• Iron’s Spells, Ars Nouveau: pay with mana instead of XP.
• Leash All, SWEM: more animals can come along.
• Shader packs (Iris / Oculus): the effects work with shaders on.

• One setting for balance: balance.preset (casual, balanced, challenging, hardcore or custom).
• Every number is in config/waybound-common.json with a short note above it. The server sends its settings to players, so tooltips always match.
• The server decides everything and checks every packet. Nothing runs while nobody is casting.
• Structure anchors, ruins, loot and trades can each be changed or turned off.
• Permission nodes for casting and player travel (works with LuckPerms).
• For add-on makers: add your own waypoints to the Grimoire and react to casts and teleports. See the API guide.

Can I use it instead of Waystones?
Yes. You can also use both: the Grimoire lists your waystones next to your anchors. Waybound is its own mod, not made by the Waystones team.

Does the server need it?
Yes, install it on the client and the server.

Can I put it in my modpack?
Yes, in any modpack (public, private or paid). Videos and streams are fine too.

Can I make an add-on?
Yes. Use the public API (eu.adoman.waybound.api, MIT license, see the API guide), its events, data packs or the config, and publish your add-on as a separate mod. The rest of the mod is All Rights Reserved: please don’t re-upload it, publish changed copies or copy its code and art. For anything else, ask at adoman.eu/contact.

Which versions?
Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge, Fabric) and 1.20.1 (Forge, Fabric). The integrations work on both (Iron’s Spells / Ars Nouveau mana only on NeoForge 1.21.1).
