💡 Utility Nexus QoL

Small optional quality-of-life tweaks for NeoForge: a vanilla-style beacon beam of light rising from every Waystones block so travel hubs stand out at a distance, and an in-GUI picker for crafting recipes that clash between mods.

✨ Overview

Utility Nexus QoL is a home for small, optional player-facing enhancements that don’t belong in a server-ops mod or a crash-patch mod. Features that enhance another mod stay completely inert unless that mod is installed; the rest are pure vanilla. Every feature is a self-contained toggle. Built for NeoForge 21.1.259 on Minecraft 1.21.1.

What it covers so far:

  • Waystone Beacon Beam — a client-side vanilla beacon beam over every Waystones block in view, with configurable colour and height. Requires the Waystones mod; a no-op without it.
  • Recipe Conflict Selector — when several mods define crafting recipes that share the same ingredients but produce different results, an in-GUI picker above the result slot lets you choose which one you get. Works out of the box in vanilla; optional compat adds the same picker to Tom’s Storage’s Crafting Terminal, and steps aside automatically if the real Polymorph mod is installed.

🎯 Features

🌟 Waystone Beacon Beam

Renders a vanilla-style beacon beam rising from the top of every Waystones block within render distance, so bases, shops and travel hubs are visible from far away — just like a beacon marks a spot.

  • Client-side only; nothing changes on a server, and nothing is sent over the network
  • Waystones blocks are found by registry namespace alone — the mod never links against the Waystones API, so it survives Waystones updates
  • Double-gated: the render is only wired up when the Waystones mod is actually present, and a runtime check re-confirms that on every frame — with Waystones absent the feature registers nothing and cannot crash
  • Beam colour (RGB) and height in blocks are configurable

🔄 Recipe Conflict Selector

When two or more crafting recipes match the same grid layout but produce different results — a common clash once several mods are installed — vanilla silently picks one and you can never craft the other. This adds a small swap-arrows button above the crafting result slot so you can pick.

  • Works in the crafting table, the 2×2 inventory grid, and (optionally) Tom’s Storage’s Crafting Terminal
  • Click the button to open a bordered panel of every possible result — the current pick is outlined, and hovering an icon shows its tooltip. Click one to switch.
  • The choice updates the preview and the real craft, and is remembered for the rest of the session (never written to disk)
  • Pure vanilla core — no dependencies for the crafting table / inventory grid. When a grid has only one possible result the button never appears and behaviour is unchanged.
  • For the pick to affect a real craft, the mod must be installed on both the client and the server
  • Tom’s Storage compat (optional): the same picker appears in the Crafting Terminal when Tom’s Storage is installed — a complete no-op without it, and no link against its API
  • Polymorph interop: if the real Polymorph mod is installed, this feature’s overlay steps aside everywhere so it never competes with Polymorph’s own picker

⚙️ Configuration Reference

Files live under config/utility_nexus/qol/.

Key Default Notes
config.toml — [waystoneBeam]
waystoneBeam.enabled true Master switch for the Waystone Beacon Beam. Requires the Waystones mod; does nothing without it.
waystoneBeam.beamHeightBlocks 100 How many blocks tall the beam is. Range 1–1024.
waystoneBeam.colorRed 80 Beam colour, red channel (0–255).
waystoneBeam.colorGreen 200 Beam colour, green channel (0–255).
waystoneBeam.colorBlue 255 Beam colour, blue channel (0–255).
recipe-select.toml — [recipeSelect]
recipeSelect.enabled true Master switch for the Recipe Conflict Selector (both the client button and the server-side recipe override).

📋 Requirements

Minecraft 1.21.1
NeoForge 21.1.259+
Java 21
Waystones optional — only needed for the Waystone Beacon Beam feature
Tom’s Storage optional — only needed for the Recipe Conflict Selector to appear in the Crafting Terminal
Polymorph optional — if installed, this mod’s Recipe Conflict Selector steps aside in its favour
Dependencies none required — the Recipe Conflict Selector core is pure vanilla

🎮 How to Use

  1. Install NeoForge 21.1.259 for Minecraft 1.21.1.
  2. Place Utility Nexus QoL in your mods folder.
  3. Install Waystones as well to get the Waystone Beacon Beam — the beam appears automatically over Waystones blocks.
  4. To change the beam colour or height, or to switch it off, edit config/utility_nexus/qol/config.toml ([waystoneBeam]).
  5. The Recipe Conflict Selector works out of the box: whenever a crafting grid has more than one possible result, a button appears above the output slot. Turn it off in config/utility_nexus/qol/recipe-select.toml ([recipeSelect]).
