This mod backports the modern mushroom blocks. Now, the three six sided mushroom block variants are obtainable in survival, using a silk touch tool. First time loading a world there will be a warning that blocks with IDs 99 and 100 are mismatched, but I can confirm, that removing the mod doesn’t delete any of the mushroom blocks placed, so it’s vanilla compatible.
