Revival – The Early Day

Remember Alpha? The green-topped dirt sides, the cobblestone, the oof, the dirt menu with the old logo, C418 playing out of nowhere while you dig? This pack puts Alpha 1.2.6 back into Minecraft 26.3. Not a “retro-inspired” pack, the actual thing, rebuilt for the modern game.

What’s in it

Original Alpha textures. Every block and item that existed in Alpha 1.2.6 uses its original 16×16 texture: terrain, items, tools, armour, Steve, pigs, cows, sheep, chickens, creepers, zombies, skeletons, spiders, zombie pigmen, ghasts and slimes, paintings, the font, clouds, sun and moon, the grass/foliage colours, and the GUI

Alpha’s animated textures, as code. Water, lava, fire and the nether portal weren’t images in Alpha, they were generated every frame. Those generators have been ported and baked, so the shimmer, the lava cells and the violet portal swirl look exactly as they did. The compass needle and clock dial are drawn the Alpha way too.

Every newer block and item in the same style. Spruce through cherry and pale oak wood, granite/diorite/andesite/deepslate/tuff, copper, amethyst, the Nether and End blocks, all 16 wools, concretes, terracottas and stained glass, netherite and copper gear, the lot: over 2,000 textures made from Alpha’s own tiles so nothing looks out of place.

Full-block chests. With Entity Model Features installed, chests (single, double and trapped) are Alpha’s real 16×16×16 chests with the latch on the front. Without EMF you still get the Alpha planks on the modern shape.

The old sounds, for everything. Walking, digging and breaking, doors, chests, the oof, every original mob call, the fuse and the old explosion, the arrow “drr”, the button click, caves, the portal. Modern sound events are remapped to the original recordings; things Alpha had no sound for use other pre-1.6 recordings or stay silent, just like back then.

The old music only. C418’s Minecraft, Clark, Sweden, Subwoofer Lullaby, Living Mice, Haggstrom, Danny, Key, Oxygène, Dry Hands, Wet Hands and Mice on Venus in the overworld; the old creative, Nether, End and credits tracks where they belong; Mutation, Moog City, Beginning and Floating Trees on the title screen. None of the newer songs play.
