Undermined is a zombie apocalypse pack for Minecraft 1.20.1.
You wake up with nothing in a world that’s already over. Towns are still standing,
mostly, and everything you need is somewhere inside them: food, scrap, fuel, guns.
So is everything that wants you dead.
Zombies dig
This is the part that changes how you play. A zombie holding a pickaxe will mine
through your wall to get to you. They bridge across gaps and over lava, and if
you’re standing on a roof they’ll pillar up after you. The blocks they place rot
away after a couple of minutes so the landscape doesn’t end up wrecked, but the
hole in your base stays until you fix it.
Walling yourself in buys you time. It doesn’t make you safe.
They get worse as the days pass
The first week you’re fighting ordinary zombies in rags. Around day 5 they start
turning up in hard hats and police vests, by day 50 in army kit, and somewhere
past day 80 you’ll meet your first one in juggernaut plate. It’s gradual enough
that you usually notice too late.
You’re not the last person alive
Raiders hold most of the buildings worth looting. Houses and shops have a few
scavengers with pistols. Police stations and depots have better equipped ones.
Military bases have veterans and elites carrying AKs, and they’ll shoot you long
before you’ve decided what to do. They fight zombies and villagers too, so now and
then you’ll walk in on something already going badly for someone else.
Guns work like guns
Weapons come from TaCZ with an armour system layered on top, so what you’re
shooting matters as much as where you hit. A 9mm will drop an unarmoured zombie
fine and do almost nothing to a soldier in plate. Buckshot is brutal up close and
useless against anything with a vest. If you want to get through the good armour
you need a rifle.
You craft your guns rather than finding them. Raiders drop ammunition and cash,
never their weapon.
Some places will kill you slowly
Clinics, police stations and storage depots are contaminated and need a filter
mask. Military bases need a better one. There’s a bunker somewhere that needs the
best one you’ll ever find, and it’s worth the trip.
Getting back on your feet
Tech is Create and Mekanism, but gated behind scavenging and recycling rather than
handed to you. You break down the wreckage of the old world into the parts for a
new one: plastic from trash, steel from scrap, eventually power, automation and
turrets that hold a perimeter while you sleep.
