Survival in this world requires forethought:

Hungry for discovery – budding adventures often find they are to weak to fight the monster roaming dark places. always pack food. (Spice of life)
Mines are dry, old keeps are drier – Lucky few find riches untold (Reduced loot & ores)
Mending magic has faded – Smiths and tinkerers use their skills to keep gear in good repair
