zHunters Progression Gate

zHunters Progression Gate is a lightweight progression gate mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 Fabric, designed to control access to dimensions and progression-based content using configurable player tags.

The mod allows adventure and RPG-focused modpacks to lock dimensions behind specific progression milestones, while keeping the progression system completely configurable and independent from any quest mod.

Features

• Configurable Dimension Gates — Lock individual dimensions behind specific player tags.
• Per-Player Progression — Each player’s progression is checked independently.
• Event-Based Protection — Progression is checked when a player actually attempts to change dimensions instead of continuously checking every tick.
• Centralized Configuration — Manage dimension gates, progression requirements, messages, hints, special protections, and rocket tiers from a single configuration file.
• Direct Tag-Based Unlocks — Use ordinary Minecraft player tags to control progression.
• FTB Library / FTB Quests Compatibility — When used with FTB Library (Fabric) and FTB Quests (Fabric), configured stage names can be used directly as the player’s progression tags without requiring a dedicated synchronization script.
• No FTB Quests Dependency — FTB Quests is completely optional. The mod can be used by itself with normal /tag commands or any other system capable of managing player tags.
• Custom Blocked-Access Messages — Configure the message shown when a player attempts to access locked content.
• Custom Progression Hints — Add a hint explaining how the player can unlock the required progression.
• Message Cooldown — Prevent repeated blocked-action messages from being displayed too frequently.
• Ad Astra Rocket Protection — Restrict rocket tiers according to progression requirements before the player can proceed with space travel.
• The Aether Compatibility — Protect The Aether portal using the configured progression system.
• VoidZ Compatibility — Protect the VoidZ portal using the configured progression system.
• AdventureZ Compatibility — Support progression-based protection for the Eye Shrine and related mechanics.
• Wither Protection — Restrict Wither progression according to the configured requirement.
• Custom Dimension Support — Add your own dimensions and progression requirements directly through the configuration.
• Client & Server Friendly — Designed primarily around server-side progression logic and multiplayer use.

Configuration

The mod creates:

config/zhunters_progression_gate.json

The configuration can be used to define which player tag is required for each protected dimension.

Example:

In a modpack using FTB Library and FTB Quests, the stage value can correspond directly to the progression tag used by the FTB stage system.

The mod can also be used completely independently:

/tag <player> add <tag>
/tag <player> remove <tag>

For example:

/tag PlayerName add nether_unlocked

This immediately satisfies a gate configured with:

stage = nether_unlocked

Default Progression Gates

The default configuration includes progression gates for:

• The Nether — nether_unlocked
• The Aether — aether_unlocked
• Twilight Forest — twilight_unlocked
• Deeper and Darker — deeperdarker_unlocked
• The End — end_unlocked
• The Moon — space_unlocked
• Mars — story_space_moon
• Venus — story_space_mars
• Mercury — story_space_mars
• Glacio — story_space_venus
• VoidZ — story_endgame_the_eye

These entries are fully configurable and can be changed or removed without modifying the mod.

Ad Astra Rocket Progression

Rocket tiers can be configured independently from dimension gates.

The default configuration uses:

• Tier 1 — space_unlocked
• Tier 2 — story_space_moon
• Tier 3 — story_space_mars
• Tier 4 — story_space_venus

Rocket progression is checked before the player can proceed with the launch sequence, preventing access to later space content before the corresponding progression has been completed.

Installation

1. Install Fabric Loader for Minecraft 1.20.1.
2. Place zHunters Progression Gate in the mods folder.
3. Configure your progression gates in config/zhunters_progression_gate.json.
4. Launch Minecraft.

No quest mod is required.
