VoxelSprout Policy: For server admins: choose which BuildPrint, Sorted and Charted features players can use on your server.

Server-side only: install it on your server, not in your game

VoxelSprout Policy goes on the server. On a client it does nothing at all, so there is no point
putting it in your own mods folder or in a client modpack. Players don’t install it: they install
BuildPrint, Sorted or
Charted as usual, and get your server’s rules from it
when they join. Players without those mods aren’t affected.

VoxelSprout Policy

Server rules for the VoxelSprout mods. Choose which features of BuildPrint, Sorted and Charted
players can use on your server: turn off BuildPrint’s printer, Sorted’s quick stack or Charted’s
radar, or cap how fast the printer goes. Players with the mods are told what is off and why, and
their own settings are kept for other servers.

It also does BuildPrint’s paste on the server, much quicker than pasting with commands, and tells
map mods which world a player is in behind a proxy.

It used to be BuildPrint Policy. Replace the old jar with this one and your settings move over on
their own.

What you can turn off

Each feature has the name the mod shows players, and an id for /vspolicy and the config file.

BuildPrint

  • Easy place (buildprint.easy_place): right-click the ghost to place the exact schematic block
  • Drag place (buildprint.drag_place): hold right-click and sweep to place many blocks
  • Easy break (buildprint.easy_destroy): hold left-click to break only blocks that don’t match
    the schematic
  • Placing in mid-air (buildprint.angel_placement): place blocks in mid-air or in water and
lava, with nothing to build against
  • Auto-rotate (buildprint.auto_rotate): briefly turn the player’s view so a block lands facing
    the right way
  • Printer (buildprint.printer): place nearby missing blocks automatically, or cap its speed and
    range
  • Creating schematics (buildprint.create_schematics): saving part of your world as a schematic
with BuildPrint’s editor, so builds can’t be copied off your server with BuildPrint
  • Paste (buildprint.paste): pasting a whole schematic into the world at once (creative mode
only), or cap how many blocks one paste may change
  • Free camera (buildprint.free_camera): flying BuildPrint’s editor camera away from the body,
for servers whose rules don’t allow a free camera; players then edit from where they stand

Sorted

  • Sorting (sorted.sort): sort the open chest or the inventory with one click or key
  • Sorting on its own (sorted.auto_sort): sort the inventory on pickup, and chests as they open
  • Quick stack (sorted.quick_stack): send stacks into the matching chests nearby, and Quick
    Empty and Pull All
  • Quick fill (sorted.quick_fill): top up the stacks the player carries from chests nearby
  • Reading chests in passing (sorted.auto_scan): open containers within reach to see what’s in
them as the player walks past
  • Highlights through walls (sorted.find_items): show the chests that hold a searched item
    through walls
  • Click speed (sorted.clicks_per_tick): cap how many inventory clicks Sorted makes per tick, for
    anti-cheat that counts them

Charted

  • Cave view (charted.cave_view): the map shows the caves around the player
  • Radar (charted.radar): mobs and animals on the map
  • Players on the radar (charted.radar_players): other players on the map
  • Slime chunks (charted.slime_chunks): mark the chunks slimes spawn in
  • Light overlay (charted.light_overlay): mark where mobs can spawn. Charted 0.1.0 doesn’t have
one yet; the switch applies once it does
  • Teleporting from the map (charted.teleport): teleport to a spot or waypoint on the map, for
    players allowed to use /tp
  • Far players at the map’s edge (charted.locator): show which way players beyond the radar
are, as heads on the map’s edge; only what the game’s locator bar shows
  • Biome view (charted.biome_view): color the world map by biome, with the biomes’ names
  • Search: biomes (charted.search_biomes): find biomes the map has seen with the world map’s
    search
  • Search: blocks (charted.search_blocks): find blocks the map has seen with the world map’s
    search
  • Search: marks (charted.search_marks): find what other mods marked on the map, such as
structures, with the world map’s search

Charted also follows the codes servers already send for Xaero’s Minimap and the permissions a
JourneyMap server gives, so a server set up for those gets the same from Charted.

You can also leave a short note, like "The printer is off to keep the economy fair."

Setting it up

Everything is allowed after install. Run /vspolicy in-game for a chest menu: pick a mod, then
click a feature to turn it off or on, or click a cap to raise it (right-click lowers it, Q removes
it). Changes are saved and reach online players straight away. Nothing needs installing on your own
client.

Or use commands and the config file, config/voxelsprout-policy.json:

/vspolicy the chest menu (the console gets a summary)
/vspolicy status buildprint every rule of one mod
/vspolicy disable buildprint.printer turn a feature off
/vspolicy enable buildprint.printer allow it again
/vspolicy limit buildprint.printer_speed 2 cap it (0 = no cap)
/vspolicy limit sorted.clicks_per_tick 4
/vspolicy message set <text> the note players see
/vspolicy reload re-read the config file

Per-rank permissions are in the Bukkit plugin; on Fabric and NeoForge the
rules are the same for everyone.

Paste on the server

Players in creative mode can paste a schematic with BuildPrint. With this installed, the server
writes the blocks itself: a slice of each tick, without block updates, chest contents and sign text
included. That’s much quicker than pasting with commands, and it needs no operator status. The
server checks that the player is in creative, and each player can undo their last 5 pastes, until
they leave. With paste turned off, BuildPrint doesn’t paste on your server in any way, not through
Axiom, commands or WorldEdit either.

Filling a build’s containers from the schematic goes through the server the same way: the items go
straight into the chests, barrels and hoppers already standing in the world, and it can be undone.

Maps behind a proxy

One server address can stand for several worlds: the servers behind a proxy, or a world that was
reset. Each server running Policy gives its world an id of its own, kept in voxelsprout-world.txt
in the world’s folder, and tells the players’ mods which world they are in, so maps, saved builds
and chest caches stay apart.

It also tells Xaero’s Minimap, Xaero’s World Map, JourneyMap and VoxelMap, the same way
MapModCompanion does, so players with those mods get one map per world too. Each world and dimension
gets its own id. With MapModCompanion installed, Policy leaves that part to it. Turn it off with
map_mod_ids: false in the config.

What players see

  • A chat line when they join, and when you change something, with a link to the details.
  • Settings that are off here are grayed out with the reason. Keys for them say they’re off on this
    server instead of doing nothing.

Their own settings aren’t changed. Everything works as before on other servers.

Every command, rule, config key and permission is in the wiki, and common questions are in the FAQ.

Be aware

This is a rule the mods follow on the client. It is not anti-cheat: a modified client can ignore
it, and it does nothing about other mods, like Litematica or world downloaders. Players need a mod
version that supports server rules; older ones ignore them.

Modpacks and videos

Use VoxelSprout Policy in any modpack or server pack, on CurseForge, Modrinth or anywhere else. Show it in videos,
streams, reviews and mod showcases, monetized or not. You don’t need to ask for either.
