True Third Person

Client-side Fabric mod that turns third person into a proper MMO-style camera. Toggle it on and:

• The camera orbits your character freely — the mouse no longer turns the player
• WASD moves relative to the camera (8 directions) and your character smoothly turns to face the direction of travel
• Attacking or using an item instantly aims your character where the camera looks, so combat, mining and building still feel vanilla
• Stand still and you can circle the camera all the way around your character

The mod hands control back to vanilla automatically in first person, while gliding, swimming or riding — and takes over again the moment you’re done.

If you miss the classic Better Third Person on modern versions, this is built for you.

Features

• Toggle key: B (rebindable in Options → Controls → True Third Person)
• Smooth character turning with configurable speed
• Auto-switch to third person on toggle (optional)
• Aim sync while attack/use is held (optional)

Config (config/truethirdperson.json)

• turnSpeed (default 30) — how fast the character turns toward the travel direction, in degrees per tick
• autoPerspective (default true) — switch to third person when enabling, back when disabling
• aimSync (default true) — point the character at the camera while attacking or using items

Good to know

While you’re orbiting (not aiming), the block outline follows your character’s facing rather than the crosshair — aim sync takes over the moment you click.

• Fabric Loader 0.16+ and Fabric API
• Java 21

Client-side only, no server installation needed — the server sees a completely vanilla player.
