Reliquified Malum

Description

Reliquified Malum turns the trinkets of Malum into Relics (Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge). Each trinket now levels up as you use it, gains abilities and unlocks rank bonuses, in the Relics interface.

It was made for the Tales of Fantasia modpack, but it works in any pack that has Malum, Relics and Curios.

How it works

• Same items, same ids. The 23 effect trinkets of Malum become Relics under their original ids. Trinkets your players already own are converted with nothing to do.
• Malum’s effects are kept. Each relic keeps what the trinket did in Malum, then makes it grow: its numbers scale with the relic’s level, and rank bonuses add new effects.
• XP from the trinket’s own use. A scythe ring levels up from scythe hits, a spirit ring from collecting spirits, an explosion ring from your explosions, and so on.
• Balance in config files. Every number lives in config/tofneo_malumrelics/relics/<item>.yaml, written by Relics at first launch. Edit them to rebalance a relic; they override the defaults.
• Original art. Every ability icon and brooch texture was drawn for this mod. No asset from Malum or Relics is included.

The 24 runes, the 4 brooches of Malum, the 4 plain base trinkets and the 2 cosmetic charms stay as they are: they trade slots or carry no effect that could grow.

Four new brooches

Built like Malum’s own brooches: each one trades something for something else.

They are crafted by spirit infusion and found in Malum’s creative tab.

Arcane monsters

Magic damage is rare in normal survival, which leaves some Soul Ward abilities with little to react to. So 3% of naturally spawned zombies, skeletons, spiders and pillagers are arcane: a violet aura marks them, and each of their hits, arrows included, adds 0.5 to 2 magic damage. Spawners, eggs and commands never make arcane monsters.

Changes to Malum itself

• Sweeping Edge can no longer be applied to Malum’s scythes. The Necklace of the Narrow Edge brings back its own, scaling sweep.
• Cancerous Growth (Ring of Growing Flesh) gives +2% max health per level instead of 5%, up to level 25.
• Cancerous Growth and Echoing Arcana last at most 15 minutes, whatever extends them.

Compatibility

• Minecraft 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1+
• Malum 1.8.2 exactly. Some effects adjust values written in Malum’s code, so another version has to be checked first; the mod refuses to load with it.
• Relics 0.12.x (tested with 0.12.8). Its author describes the API as unstable, so the line is pinned.
• Curios API
• Required on both client and server.
