Preview Guard for Jade keeps oversized container previews informative without changing the items stored inside.

Jade can lose a container’s item preview when a stack contains unusually large component data, such as a written book with many pages. This unofficial addon addresses the scenario reported in Jade issue #824.

When a preview becomes too large, Preview Guard simplifies its display data so item identities and counts can remain visible. A notice indicates when information has been simplified or omitted. Normal previews within the configured budget remain unchanged.

Preserves actual inventory contents and item components.
Respects Jade’s container-access checks and packet-size protection.
Adds clear notices for simplified, shortened, or unavailable previews.
Provides configurable server-side behavior.

Install the addon and its dependencies in your mods folder. For multiplayer testing, install the same versions on both the client and server.

Configuration is available in config/jade-preview-guard.properties. Restart after making changes. Keep Jade’s default provider ordering.

Alpha status

Version 0.1.0-alpha.1 passed 17 Minecraft TestServer integration tests and 15 configuration/client-registration assertions, following two upstream baseline tests. Graphical gameplay verification was blocked by the test environment. Real networked multiplayer, full world restart, and broader modpack compatibility remain unverified.

This release covers block-container previews. Entity inventories, including chest minecarts, are outside its scope. Other Minecraft versions, loaders, and Jade releases are unsupported by this alpha.

Jade is created by Snownee and contributors. Preview Guard is an independent addon and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Jade’s maintainers. Its original code is MIT licensed; Jade remains a separate required download under its own license.
