Pet Whistle

Keep your companions close with a whistle. Press G to play a whistle sound and open a pet menu built around Minecraft’s familiar buttons, font, and panels. You can change the key in Options → Controls → Pet Whistle.

Your registered pets appear on the left, with the oldest registration selected first. On the right, see a 3D preview, name, health, status, location, and saved home for the selected pet.

Bring them along. Send them home.

• Call: bring a pet to a safe spot near you.
• Set home: use your current position as that pet’s return and respawn point.
• Send home: return the pet to its saved home.
• Recover after death: follow the countdown in the menu while your pet prepares to return home.

Recovery takes five minutes by default, and the server can change that delay. The timer follows server game time, so it pauses while the server is offline. If the home is blocked or unsafe, the pet waits until a safe place is available. You can set a new home during recovery without restarting the countdown.

Respawning restores the pet’s saved entity data, including its owner, UUID, custom name, variant, and the equipment or inventory the mob normally saves. It returns with restored health. Equipment and inventory that will return with the pet are kept from dropping on death. Passengers and leash connections are not restored.

Calling a pet clears its sitting order when that behavior is supported. Sending it home makes it sit there. Dismount and remove passengers before moving a ridden pet.

A parrot perched on your shoulder can appear distant or unavailable until it leaves your shoulder and becomes a world entity again.

Installation and versions

Install Pet Whistle on both the client and the server. For single-player, install it in your game instance. Choose the file for your exact Minecraft version and mod loader. Fabric builds also require the matching Fabric API.

Finding your pets

Vanilla pets that expose a standard owner, including tamed horses, can be registered. Existing pets are discovered when their entities load after installation, so you may need to visit their area first. For pets tamed before installation, the list uses their first discovery date because Minecraft does not store their historical taming date.

Known pets remain listed when their chunks unload. If a living pet cannot be located safely, the menu reports it as unavailable rather than creating a replacement.

Modded pets using Minecraft’s standard ownership systems may also work. Custom taming systems or data stored outside the mob can require a specific integration; compatibility with every mob or modpack is not guaranteed. Saved pet snapshots are specific to their Minecraft version and are not migrated between game versions.

Make it fit your world

Server settings in config/petwhistle.json control the recovery delay, action cooldown, pet limit, safe-position search radius, and travel between dimensions. Each world keeps its own pet registry.

The menu follows Minecraft’s selected language and includes 14 languages: English, Brazilian Portuguese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Turkish.
