Notice Lease

Put a temporary event notice on a nearby vanilla sign, then restore its previous text only when it is still safe to do so.

Commands

Permission level 2 is required. Stand within six blocks of an already loaded, unwaxed vanilla sign.

/noticelease preview <x y z> <front|back> <seconds> <line1|line2|line3|line4> previews up to four plain lines, each at most 80 characters. Duration: 10 seconds to 24 hours.
/noticelease confirm applies your preview within 30 seconds. Duration starts at preview time.
/noticelease list [page] shows active, deferred, restored and conflicting records.
/noticelease restore <id> requests an early guarded restoration.
/noticelease forget <id> removes a terminal record, never an active lease.

Safety and scope

The selected side must initially contain plain literal text. Rich, styled, translatable and clickable text components are rejected rather than flattened. Supported original raw/filtered lines, sign dye and glowing style are retained. The other side is never restored or overwritten.

Restoration requires the original block state, a matching persisted lease marker, unchanged temporary text/style, an unwaxed sign, and no active sign editor. Changed, broken or replaced signs become conflicts and are left alone. A normal replacement sign does not inherit the lease marker. Administrators or other mods copying exact block-entity data can copy markers too; this is not an anti-tampering system.

Unloaded chunks are never loaded. Expired leases wait until their chunk is available. A wall-clock deadline includes time while the server is offline. At most eight records are examined per second; the ledger holds 256 records, including completed entries. Forget old terminal entries to free space.

The ledger uses atomic file replacement and pauses automatic restoration if storage fails. Back up your world. There is no transaction spanning both the ledger file and Minecraft’s chunk save: a sudden crash can leave temporary text in place. The mod prioritizes avoiding overwriting an unrelated edit over guaranteeing restoration after a crash.

Versions

Choose the matching file: NeoForge 1.21.1 / Java 21 or NeoForge 26.3 / Java 25. Install on the server; multiplayer clients do not need it. For singleplayer, install it in the matching modded instance.

Provenance

Original Notice Lease sign-state, preview, lease-token, atomic-ledger and guarded-restoration implementation by RickCode, under MIT. Loader/build scaffolding and isolated test-addon patterns reuse our MIT Airspace Survey. Airspace Survey measures air volume without mutation; Notice Lease manages explicit temporary sign text. It does not require Airspace Survey. MIT copyright and license notices are included.

New beta release; bugs may remain. Exact final production JARs passed dedicated-server startup, 27 installed gameplay assertions and a separate-process saved-world restart with four restoration assertions on each supported version. The pure ledger suite passed 207 assertions on Java 21 and 25. Tests include actual registered preview/confirm commands, raw/filtered original lines, dye/glow, newer edits, opposite-side edits, wax/editor conflicts, replaced/broken signs, unloaded deferral then loaded restoration, expiry, permission rejection, and persisted lease markers. Graphical-client and real remote-player session testing were not performed.
