MistRazor’s Imagination

Step out of your body, fly around, and plan your builds with imaginary blocks only you can see.

Press I and your character stops to think. Your view drifts free as a creative-style camera with a fresh, empty Imagination inventory. Build, break, pour water and test ideas right in your real world. None of it touches the world: the server never sees your camera or your imaginary blocks. Press I again and you snap back into your body, with your real inventory and game mode just as you left them.

Back in survival, your plans stay visible as translucent imaginary blocks: a blueprint you can build over, block by block. No more jumping off to plan a build in a Creative world; now you can do it on your survival server with your friends!

Features

A free camera that keeps your body safe

  • Fly anywhere in Creative-style flight while your real body stays where it was, physically simulated and drawn in a thinking pose for you and for other players with the mod.
  • If your body is hurt or moved (knockback, explosions, teleports), you’re jolted back with a red flash and an attention-grabbing audio cue, so you’re never caught off guard. Both can be switched off.
  • A dreamy cross-dissolve and a harp glissando mark going in and coming out of Imagination. You can change the length and volume or turn them off entirely.

Imaginary blocks

  • Place and break anything from the Creative inventory, with Creative pick-block. Fences, panes, walls, stairs,
redstone dust and doors connect properly.
  • Imaginary air lets you picture a real block gone: carve out a hillside or plan a basement before digging a
    single block.
  • While imagining, your plans look solid and fully lit, like real blocks. Outside Imagination they’re translucent ghosts over the real world, with colored highlights:
    • orange: the right block with the wrong configuration (facing, shape, half…)
    • red: a different block is in the way, or you imagined that block removed
    • aqua: a new fluid source block will be created by the imaginary fluids you’ve placed
  • Guides clean themselves up. As you build the real thing, each imaginary block disappears once the real block matches it, so what’s left shows the work still to do.

Water, lava and sponges

  • Imaginary water and lava flow using vanilla’s own fluid rules. Plan a waterfall, a moat or a lava blade and see
how it really spreads, including what happens when real fluid meets your imaginary walls.
  • Buckets scoop and pour imaginary fluid, or imagine real water drained.
  • An imaginary sponge drains a chunk in imagination; an imaginary wet sponge floods an area. Handy for planning underwater builds.

Materials list

  • One key press writes a text file listing every item you need to build what you’ve imagined (only what isn’t
already in place), sorted with stack counts. Click the chat link to open it.

Shared Imagination (multiplayer)

On a server with Imagination installed, plan together:

  • Enter Imagination normally and your blocks go on the shared layer, which everyone on the server can see and edit (if they have the mod). Hold sneak while entering for a private session only you can see.
  • Watch other imagining players fly around as see-through figures, with their bodies in the thinking pose.
  • Press R to choose what you see: only shared, only private, both (either one taking priority), or nothing.
  • LAN worlds share too, once you open them to LAN.

Fair on servers

Imagination is a client-side mod first. It works on vanilla servers too, where your imaginary blocks stay private.
It’s built so it can’t be used to cheat:

  • On servers that don’t allow it, the camera can’t pass through real blocks.
  • Imagining a block away never reveals what’s behind it. Hidden caves, ores and bases show as plain textured placeholder blocks unless you could really see that space already. Breaking one sounds like stone, and it gives nothing away. You can’t even bypass it with F3!
  • Your character never moves or interacts while you imagine.

Server owners with the mod can let everyone, ops only, an allowlist or nobody reveal hidden blocks or use noclip,
and can turn sharing on or off. Ops can change all of this in-game from the settings screen, no server restarts or relogging needed. In singleplayer, you choose the rules for your own worlds.
