MCEF (Legacy Fork for 1.12.2)

MCEF is a mod and library that embeds the Chromium browser (via JCEF) into Minecraft. It provides no functionality on its own — it exists so that other mods (e.g. WebDisplays) can render web content in-game.

About This Fork

The reason this fork exists is because the current MCEF mod for 1.12.2 (as of 2/24/2025) does not download the CEF files needed, and as such the WebDisplays mod does not work. This fork changes the default mirror the mod downloads the MCEF binaries from, and adds several fixes and features on top for legacy builds:

• Chromium version bundled: 152.0.7977.83 (CEF branch 7977)

Added Features & Fixes

• ComputerCraft support restored — re-adds compatibility that was lost in the upstream/legacy build.
• Root CA injection — fixes certificate trust issues on legacy builds so HTTPS sites load correctly.
• Widevine DRM + proprietary codec support (optional) — adds Widevine and additional proprietary codecs for sites/content that require them.

Proprietary Codec / Widevine Consent

Because Widevine and the additional codecs are proprietary, users must explicitly agree to enable them. If you do not agree:

• The mod falls back to the standard build without Widevine and without the proprietary codecs.
• All other fixes (ComputerCraft support, root CA injection, mirror fix) still apply regardless of this choice.

This is a compatibility patch, not an active fork. No new features beyond the above are planned; it’s maintained only to keep old content working with current JCEF releases.
