Living Market

Everything in your world already has a price. This mod makes it move.

Living Market adds one shared market to your Minecraft world. Villagers stop being vending machines and start working: they hold a job, earn a wage, buy what they need and sell what they make. Players trade on the same prices, from the same reserve. One jar, single player or server, every number decided by the server.

The market

What it adds

  • 75 resources on one market: ores, wood, crops, dirt, animal drops, Nether and End materials, monster drops.
  • Prices set by supply only. No base price, no inflation table: the price is the quantity left in the market.
  • 17 villager jobs that really produce: miner, lumberjack, farmer, fisher, chef, jeweler, Nether trader, End explorer and more.
  • A live order book of every named trade, villagers and players alike.
  • Candlestick charts with four timeframes, hover details, a measuring ruler and your own average buy and sell lines.
  • A bank to pay villagers and other players.
  • Everything saved with the world: market, wallets, villagers and trade feed.

How the market works

There is no shop list with prices printed on it. Each resource has a reserve, and one curve turns the quantity left into a price: a nearly empty market is expensive, a flooded one is cheap, and the same curve applies to dirt and to diamonds.

Orders pay slippage and nothing else. Each unit is priced while the stock moves, so a large order shifts the price as it fills, but there is no spread and no fee: buy a batch and sell it straight back at the same reserve, and you get exactly what you paid.

Villagers that work

Every vanilla villager gets a name, a job chosen from its UUID (so it keeps it across reloads) and a bank account with $500.

Every one to four minutes it runs a production cycle: it draws an output from its job, weighted by what the market lacks, so the village leans towards whatever is expensive. It also consumes real materials (fuel, tools, food) bought on that same market. Income and spending stay in the same range, so the village never prints money and never starves.

Wealth matters: a poor villager works at half quantities, a rich one at double, with a cap that keeps the economy from running away. Villagers also speculate on their own money, and those trades move the charts too.

The chart

Click any resource to open it:

  • OHLC candles on 1 minute, 5 minute, 1 hour or 4 hour timeframes;
  • a candle exists only when a trade happened, so the chart never invents a flat minute;
  • volume on hover, price scale on the right, last close pinned on the axis;
  • hold the right mouse button to measure: a line prints the change in percent between its two ends;
  • a dashed blue line for the average price of the purchases you still hold, a dashed orange line for sales that no purchase has closed yet;
  • wheel over the time labels to stretch the candles, wheel over the scale to zoom the price.

The chart

Order book and bank

The order book lists every named trade as it happens, newest first: who, which job, what, which way, how many, at what price. The last 50 entries are kept with the world. /bank lists online players and nearby villagers, and moves money between them.

Commands

Command Effect
/shop Opens the market
/bank Opens the bank
/jobs Lists every job, its inputs, its output and its period
/market balance Shows your balance
/market pay <player> <amount> Sends money to an online player

Multiplayer

The server owns everything: the market, the wallets, the villagers and the feed live in the world save, and every client request is checked against stock, balance and free inventory space. Villagers only tick within 128 blocks of a player. Install the mod on both sides, same version.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.20.1
  • Forge 47.x (built against 47.2.1)
  • Java 17

Notes

  • The mod ships in English only, with US number formatting ($1.98). Older builds in other languages are archived and no longer supported.
  • A new world starts with a stock per resource sized for its rarity: a bootstrap for the first hours, not a floor on supply.

Feedback and balance ideas are welcome in the comments. The whole economy is one curve, one catalogue and one set of job tables, so it is quick to tune.
