Lay of the Land

Small details that make the world feel alive, and a cold that bites.

Flowers and mushrooms grow in beds like pink petals, ruined portals wear the Nether biome that lies beyond them, and animals come in their own sizes. The snowy lands bring freezing water, thin ice, Rime Golems and snowstorms, and the deserts bring sandstorms.

🌼 Nature

• 🌼 Flower and mushroom beds: eight beds of small plants, like pink petals: dandelions, poppies, azure bluets, oxeye daisies, cornflowers, lilies of the valley, brown and red mushrooms. Use a plant on the same plant to make a bed (up to four on one block). They also grow wild, alone and in small fields, where grass grows (mushrooms in the shade).
• 🌀 Dressed ruined portals: every ruined portal in the Overworld wears the blocks of the Nether biome that lies beyond it.
• 🐑 Animals in their own sizes: every friendly animal is a little bigger or smaller, from 0.85 to 1.12 of the usual size. Young ones take after their parents.

❄️ The cold

• 🥶 Freezing: a new effect. Frost builds up until you are frozen through. Fire thaws you, leather armor slows it.
• 🌊 Icy water in the snowy lands chills you fast.
• 🧊 Thin ice on frozen water cracks under you and gives way if you stand still.
• ⛄ Rime Golems: snow golems gone wild. They throw icicles in the snowy lands, at night and in snowstorms.
• 🗡️ Frostbite: a weapon enchantment that freezes what you hit.
• 🛡️ Frost Protection: an armor enchantment that keeps the cold out.
• 🌨️ Storms: rare snowstorms where it snows, and sandstorms in deserts and badlands.

⚙️ Good to know

• Beds, dressed portals and thin ice appear in newly generated land. Animal sizes also reach the animals already in your world.
• Config layoftheland-common.toml: switch beds, portals, animal sizes, thin ice, icy water and storms on or off, and tune their numbers.
• 🌍 In English and German.
