Iron & Nouveau

Iron & Nouveau is an unofficial mod brings the magic of Iron’s Spells ’n Spellbooks into Ars Nouveau’s spell crafting system.

Combine Iron spells with Ars casting methods and augments—from splitting ice projectiles to healing circles, summoned allies, and directed dragon breath.

Features

• 95 glyphs: All from iron’s spells.
• Native Iron projectiles: transform Ars projectiles into Iron spells while preserving supported Ars movement and targeting behavior.
• Flexible effects: weave healing, buffs, debuffs, area attacks, summons, and breath spells into Ars spell chains.
• Level-based scaling: Amplify and Dampen adjust the Iron spell level, affecting its native effects and mana cost. Levels can exceed the original scroll maximum.
• Pay when spells activate: Iron glyphs have no upfront glyph cost. Their Iron spell cost is paid when they activate; ordinary Ars components retain their usual costs.
• Mana-aware splitting: if you can afford only three projectiles out of five, the spell fires a normal three-projectile spread.
• English and Simplified Chinese localization.

Build Your Own Spells

Combine casting methods, Iron glyphs, and augments to create spells such as:

• Projectile → Icicle → Split: launch a spread of native Iron ice projectiles.
• Projectile → Healing Circle: create a healing area at the impact location.
• Touch → Summon Vex: summon allies around the selected target.
• Self → Fire Breath: breathe fire while continuously consuming mana.

Iron projectile forms act as augments to supported Ars projectiles. Other Iron spells appear as effect glyphs.

Choose Your Progression

By default, personally crafting or upgrading an Iron scroll unlocks its corresponding glyph. Your highest personally crafted scroll level becomes that spell’s base level.

Two settings can be configured independently in config/irons_nouveau-server.toml:

Base Spell Levels

• Personal scroll progress: use the highest scroll level you have personally crafted or upgraded.
• Fixed levels: set a default base level, with optional overrides for individual spells.

Glyph Learning

• Scroll crafting: unlock glyphs by personally crafting or upgrading their Iron scrolls.
• Ars learning: use Ars’s learned-glyph system. Craft glyphs at the Scribe’s Table using a matching Iron scroll and a Source Gem.

Mix these options freely—for example, require scroll crafting to unlock glyphs while keeping their base levels fixed.

All Iron glyphs are Ars Tier 1. This tier is separate from their actual Iron spell level.

Requirements

Minecraft 1.21.1 · NeoForge

Install on both the client and server.

Required mods:

• Ars Nouveau
• Iron’s Spells ’n Spellbooks
• Their required dependencies

Optional Integrations

• Ars ’n’ Spells: uses its shared mana system when installed.
• Not Enough Glyphs: supports selected additional projectile behaviors.

Neither optional integration is required. Iron’s Nouveau works independently of any modpack or custom progression mod.

Current Scope

Iron & Nouveau is actively developed and supports a selected set of Iron spells.

Continuous beams, teleportation, and portals are not currently supported.
