Hooked

Fishing finally fights back. Hooked turns every bite into a quick reel minigame, shows you the rare catches you could land right now, and fills the water with new fish that only appear at night, in storms or in certain biomes.

Built for multiplayer: the server decides every catch, your client shows the fun part.

The Reel Minigame

When a fish bites, a bar appears above your hotbar. Hold right click to push the green catch zone to the right and let go to let it slide back. Keep the fish inside the zone and the meter fills. Let it slip away and the meter drains.

Fill it up and the fish is yours. Let it run empty and it gets away, but your bobber stays in the water so you can try again.

Common fish are easy. Rare, epic and legendary fish swim faster, change direction more often and dart away when you least expect it.

Rare Catches Sidebar

While your bobber is out, the right side of the screen lists every rare, epic and legendary catch that can bite right now, with its live drop chance.

• Catches you have never landed show as a black silhouette with a little ? on top
• Rare chances are gold, epic chances are purple, legendary chances shimmer in an animated rainbow
• Catches that need a different time, weather or biome are folded into a +N locked line, so the list changes as the world around you changes

Read the Bite

You can tell what is on the line before the bar even appears.

• Rare: the bobber sinks harder and gold sparkles burst from the water
• Epic: purple sparkles, a big splash and a deep chime
• Legendary: a column of bubbles, glowing particles, totem sparkles and a bell

Rare fish also keep shaking the bobber the whole time you reel.

Weather, Time and Biomes

Some fish only bite under the right sky.

You can also pull up Sunken Treasure, Nautilus Shells, a Heart of the Sea or, if you are very lucky, a Trident.

Legendary Catches Are Announced

Land a legendary and the whole server hears about it in rainbow chat.

Rods and Bait

Upgrade your gear to make the minigame easier and the rare catches more common.

Bait is used automatically from your offhand (or your inventory), one per bite.

All rods work with Luck of the Sea, Lure, Unbreaking and Mending.

Fisherman Table (new in 1.1)

Every angler needs a workbench. Craft a Fisherman Table and right click it.

• Crafting station: all bait, rod parts and rod upgrades in one list. Pick a recipe and it is made straight from your inventory. Shift click to make up to 8 at once. Ingredients you are missing show in red
• Rod upgrade bench: put any fishing rod in the middle and fit a Line, a Hook and a Reel. Take a part out any time to swap it. Parts stay on the rod, even vanilla rods
• Trophy display: sneak and right click the table with a fish to show it off. It floats above the table and slowly turns. Sneak and right click with an empty hand to take it back

Upgrading a rod at the table keeps its enchantments, name and parts.

Fish Journal

Craft a Fish Journal and right click it to see everything you have caught. Fish you have not found yet stay as silhouettes until you land one, and hovering any entry tells you where it bites. Your journal is saved on the server, so it follows you through deaths and relogs.

Crafting table recipes show up in your recipe book.

The table also makes the Iron, Golden and Diamond rods and the Fish Journal.

Configuration

Everything is adjustable.

• config/hooked-common.toml: minigame difficulty (overall and per rarity), rarity colors, announcements on or off and from which rarity, sidebar on or off, bait use
• config/hooked/catches.json: the full catch list. Add your own catches, change weights and rarities, or set conditions for time, weather, biomes, temperature and dimension. Use any item or any loot table. Run /reload after editing

Commands (operators)

• /hooked pond builds a fishing pond in front of you and gives you every Hooked item
• /hooked bite [catch name] makes your bobber bite within a second with the catch you choose, great for testing your config

Installing

Hooked needs Minecraft 26.3 and Forge 66.0.13 or newer.

Put the jar in the mods folder of the server and every player. The server handles all catches and saves, and players need the mod for the minigame and the sidebar.
