Hammers 3×3!

Mining one block at a time gets old fast. Hammers 3×3! gives you hammers that break a whole 3×3 with every swing,
plus a bunch of hammer-only enchantments that take it way further.

THE HAMMERS

Wood, Stone, Copper, Iron, Gold, Diamond and Netherite.
Every one of them also has an Enhanced version that lasts longer and digs faster.
You’ll need an Enhanced Stick for those.

Copper hammers are only in 1.17.1 and newer, since older versions don’t have copper at all. Same goes for Netherite in 1.12.2 – so 1.16.5 has 12 hammers and 1.12.2 has 10.

HAMMERS VS PICKAXES

Hammers last longer than pickaxes but swing a bit slower – they’re breaking 9 blocks at once after all.
Enhanced hammers beat pickaxes at both. And a swing only costs 1 durability, no matter how many blocks it breaks!

* vanilla only has copper pickaxes from 1.21.9, so on this mod’s versions only in 26.1.2 and newer

HOW IT WORKS

Hit a wall, floor or ceiling and the 3×3 lines up with whatever side you hit.
Right-click with a hammer to see exactly which blocks your next swing takes out. Need just one block? Sneak.

It’s fair too – a swing is only as fast as the hardest block in it,
and a hammer never breaks anything its tier couldn’t mine anyway.

NOT A CHEAP 3X3

Every block in the swing gets mined like you broke it by hand.
Fortune and Silk Touch work on all of them, ores drop their XP like normal (Silk Touch ones don’t),
every block counts in your stats, and other mods see normal block breaks too.

HAMMER ENCHANTMENTS

Put Thunderstrike and Radiance on the same hammer and you get Crimson Thunder.
Red lightning, 50 damage, and it sets them on fire!

WHERE DO I GET THE BOOKS?

Enchant a hammer or a book at the table, then put the books on any hammer in an anvil.
Thunderstrike is the rarest one – good luck!

On 1.20.1 Fabric all seven are treasure enchantments – no enchanting table there. Librarians, chest loot and fishing still have them!

FOR SERVERS

Hammers respect claims, spawn protection and adventure mode for every single block in the swing,
and Waystones never get broken either.

Want a block to be hammer-proof? Add it to the hammers:blacklist block tag with a datapack. The mod goes on the server and every client. Fabric also needs Fabric API!

CRAFTING

Same pattern for every material – wooden hammers just take a slab in the middle.
Enhanced hammers take a block of the material in the middle (a log for wood, smooth stone for stone) and an Enhanced Stick.
Netherite ones can be crafted with ingots too, or upgraded from diamond in a smithing table.

❓ Can I use it in a modpack?
Yes, go for it!

❓ Does it have to be on the server too?
Yes – on the server and every client. Fabric also needs Fabric API.

❓ How do I mine just one block?
Sneak while you mine and the hammer breaks a single block.

❓ What does the 3×3 actually break?
Anything a pickaxe is meant for – stone, deepslate, ores, netherrack, end stone and so on.
Dirt, sand, wood and other non-pickaxe blocks are left alone, and so is anything your hammer’s tier can’t mine
(like obsidian with an iron hammer). Bedrock and other unbreakable blocks never break.

❓ Can I see what my swing is going to break?
Right-click with a hammer and the blocks your next swing takes out get highlighted.

❓ Can I stop hammers from breaking certain blocks?
Yep! Add them to the hammers:blacklist block tag with a datapack and the 3×3 will never take them
(the block you actually hit still breaks like normal). Great for spawners, furnaces or anything you care about.
The file goes in data/hammers/tags/block/blacklist.json – on 1.20.6 and older the folder is blocks instead of block.

Waystones are always protected, no datapack needed. The blacklist works on 1.16.5 and newer – 1.12.2 doesn’t have tags.

❓ Will it break my furnace or other blocks with stuff inside?
If it’s a pickaxe block in the swing, yes – it breaks like you mined it by hand and drops what’s inside.
Chests are wooden, so those are safe. Want to protect something else? Blacklist it (see above)!

❓ Do Fortune and Silk Touch work with it?
Yep, on every single block of the swing.

❓ Does it work with Mending?
Yep! Hammers take Mending like any other tool, and all the XP from a 3×3 swing goes into repairing it.
Pair it with Magnetism and the XP flies straight to you.

❓ How do I repair a hammer?
In an anvil with its material – planks for wooden, cobblestone for stone, ingots or diamonds for the rest.
Enhanced hammers use the same material. Or just put Mending on it!

❓ Do the enchantments stack?
They sure do! Seismic Shift + Tunneler II digs a 5×5 tunnel 3 blocks deep – 75 blocks in one swing.
Vein Crusher goes on top of that, and Magnetism and Molten Core work on every block of the swing.

❓ How far does Vein Crusher go?
Up to 32 extra blocks of the same ore, diagonals included, starting from every ore your swing hits.
Modded ores work too, as long as they’re tagged as ores.

❓ How does Thunderstrike work?
Right-click a mob up to 24 blocks away: 30 damage, a 3 second cooldown and 8 durability per strike.
It never hits your own pets or armor stands.
Wear at least one piece of iron or chainmail armor (copper works too, where the game has it) – or you’ll get a little shock yourself!
With Radiance it turns into Crimson Thunder: 50 damage, sets the mob on fire, 4.5 second cooldown and only 4 durability.

❓ Does Radiance leave light blocks everywhere?
Nope – the light follows you around and disappears as soon as you walk away or put the hammer down.
Works from your offhand and underwater too.
