GottaCatchemall

Catch almost any mob — vanilla or modded — with Voxelballs.

Capture, store, release, and turn Minecraft mobs into your own pokemobs. Build a team of companions, carry them in your Pokebelt, and capture defeated bosses with armed Voxelball traps.

Works completely standalone. With Cobblemon installed, its Poké Balls can also capture non-Pokémon mobs using Cobblemon’s own capture animations.

⚠️ Beta: Capture, recall, storage, pet behavior, healing, backups, and boss traps are implemented. Feedback and bug reports are welcome!

🎮 Capture

  • Capture almost any vanilla or modded mob, subject to configurable restrictions.
  • Capture, recall, and release effects.
  • Failed captures restore the mob to the world.
  • Captured mobs retain their saved data.
  • MasterVball guarantees capture of ordinary mobs. Bosses have additional protections.

👑 Boss Capture

Bosses resist thrown balls. Weaker balls may break; stronger ones (like MasterVballs and Master Balls) bounce off and be careful, it can auto capture mobs around after bounce.

Capture a defeated boss with a trap

Prepare a Voxelball trap before finishing the fight:

  1. Shift + right-click a block with an empty Voxelball of any tier to place it.
  2. Right-click the placed ball to arm it. An armed trap floats and pulses.
  3. Defeat the boss within 6 blocks of the armed trap.
  4. On success, the trap absorbs the defeated boss and produces a filled Voxelball.

Default trap rules:

  • MasterVball: guaranteed capture of an eligible boss.
  • Voxelball, SuperVball, and UltraVball: 12% capture chance.
  • A failed attempt breaks the trap, and the boss dies normally.
  • Successful trap captures give no boss loot or experience.
  • The captured boss starts with 50% of its maximum health.
  • The pokemob belongs to the player who placed the trap.
  • A successful capture grants the “Capture a Boss!” advancement.

Boss absorption features a red–violet–blue beam, a burst of particles, sound effects, and a screen shake.

Right-click your trap again to disarm it, or Shift + right-click to pick it up before capture begins.

The trap must already be armed when the boss dies. The Ender Dragon is excluded from boss-trap capture. Trap range, capture chance, absorption duration, and restored health are configurable.

⚪ Ball Progression

Voxelball

Crafting recipe:

 I
IRI
 I

I = Iron Ingot
R = Redstone

4 Iron Ingots + 1 Redstone → 1 Voxelball

Upgrade through four tiers:

Voxelball → SuperVball → UltraVball → MasterVball

Each upgrade is shapeless:

| Result | Ingredients |
|—|—|
| SuperVball | Voxelball + Gold Ingot + Redstone |
| UltraVball | SuperVball + Diamond + Redstone |
| MasterVball | UltraVball + Nether Star + Redstone |

🐾 Pet Behavior

Captured mobs become companions.

  • Follow their owner or wander naturally.
  • Combat-capable pokemobs defend their owner and attack nearby wild hostiles.
  • Following pokemobs break off combat when their owner moves too far away.
  • Hostile pokemobs do not attack their owner (but some could be rebels and attack anyways)
  • A rotating pink diamond helps you identify your own pokemobs.
  • Follow distances, hunting behavior, markers, and teleport behavior are configurable.

Right-click your pokemob without a Voxelball in hand to cycle between:

  • Follow — follow your owner.
  • Stay — remain in place.
  • Wander — roam freely.

🎒 Pokebelt

Carry 7 filled Voxelballs by default, with a configurable slot count.

  • Hold V to open the quick-select bar.
  • Scroll to select a ball.
  • Right-click to throw or recall the selected pokemob.
  • Shift + right-click the Pokebelt to open its inventory.
  • Add, remove, and reorder balls manually.

The interface includes mob previews, health bars, and status information.

Supports optional Curios integration on Forge and Trinkets integration on Fabric, with a hotbar fallback.

❤️ Healing & Revival

When a pokemob falls in combat, it can faint and return to its linked Voxelball, provided you are carrying that ball in your inventory or Pokebelt.

  • Injured pokemobs recover health while stored and carried.
  • Fainted pokemobs must be revived before release.
  • Drag a Cobblemon Revive or Max Revive onto a filled ball to revive its pokemob.
  • Without Cobblemon, an Enchanted Golden Apple provides a full revival.
  • By default, fainted pokemobs automatically revive with 1 health after one Minecraft day.

Healing rates, revival items, and automatic revival timing are configurable.

📦 Storage & Placement

  • Recall pokemobs into their linked Voxelballs.
  • Place filled balls as 3D decorations with Shift + right-click on a block.
  • Pick them back up without losing their contents.
  • Rename pokemobs with Name Tags or Anvils.
  • Identify stored mobs through portraits, health bars, and tooltips.

🛟 Pokemob Backups

Automatic backups are saved when you capture, release, recall, or faint a pokemob.

  • /gottacatch backup list — view your backups.
  • /gottacatch backup save — manually back up your filled balls.
  • /gottacatch backup restore <id> — restore a backup.

Restoration requires operator permission by default and includes checks to prevent duplicate pokemobs.

🔗 Cobblemon Integration

With Cobblemon installed:

  • Cobblemon Poké Balls can capture non-Pokémon mobs.
  • Cobblemon’s throwing, capture, and shake animations are preserved.
  • Successful non-Pokémon captures produce a Voxelball containing the pokemob.
  • Actual Pokémon remain handled by Cobblemon.
  • Pokemobs can’t be part of your cobblemon party

Boss traps are placed using this mod’s Voxelballs.

⚙️ Configurable

Customize the mod through its JSON configuration:

  • Capture rates and per-mob overrides
  • Capture blacklists and boss classification
  • Boss health thresholds and trap settings
  • Ball and effect colors
  • Follow, hunting, and teleport distances
  • Pokebelt capacity
  • Healing, revival, and backup settings
  • Mob portraits and ownership markers
