Awaken a pale-faced Watcher with a silver ritual, survive its stare, and forge the only blade that can defeat it. This is a Minecraft Java 1.20.1 mod for Fabric.

Features

• An illustrated English field journal given when you join.
• A smooth, photographic cutout creature with long fingers, a pale grin and custom horror sounds.
• A Ritual Altar: offer a Silver Ingot to activate outdoor encounters for your world.
• The Watcher freezes while watched and moves when you look away. It can see through glass and fences; solid walls break its sight. Encounters can happen during day or night after the ritual.
• Silver ore, raw silver, silver ingots and a craftable Silverblade.
• Personal liminal nightmares: wake after 45 seconds, or when caught.
• A Creative tab with a Watcher Spawn Egg, Watcher Chair, Field Table, Silver Lamp and Ritual Altar. Chairs and tables are decorative.

New in 1.6.0 (beta)

• The red Pursuer chases even while watched.
• The pale, low Listener reacts to movement. Stop or sneak before it gets close. These two species can be hurt by ordinary weapons and each has a Creative spawn egg.
• Furnished oak cabins generate on suitable flat ground in new plains and forest chunks, with a pitched roof, loft, ladder, bed, storage and ritual altar. This is an original interpretation of the reference interior, not an exact reconstruction of the entire video house.
• Every successful bed sleep now enters a liminal nightmare, even before the ritual. Wake after 45 seconds or when caught.

Getting started

Read the journal, mine silver in newly generated Overworld chunks between Y -48 and 48, and smelt it into ingots. The journal shows the Silverblade and Ritual Altar recipes. Place the altar near open ground with three blocks of headroom, then right-click with one Silver Ingot.

Requirements and multiplayer

Minecraft Java 1.20.1, Fabric Loader 0.17.2 or newer, Fabric API and Java 17 or newer. Install the same Glantaren version and Fabric API on the host and every joining client.

Essential is recommended for inviting friends to a hosted world. LambDynamicLights is recommended for light from held torches. These are separate mods, not embedded inside this mod JAR. Each player must install the matching Fabric 1.20.1 versions.

Watchtower loot

With TaCZ: Refabricated and Abandoned Watchtowers for Fabric 1.20.1 installed, newly generated tower chest loot includes a Taurus 943 pistol and 38–45 matching .22 WMR rounds alongside the normal loot. Guns do not replace the Silverblade against the Watcher. Forge-only weapon addons are not included.

Companion mods

For the complete experience install the Fabric 1.20.1 versions of Essential, Abandoned Watchtowers, Crawl on Demand, TaCZ: Refabricated and LambDynamicLights. TaCZ also needs Forge Config API Port. These are separate companion mods, not contained in the standalone Glantaren JAR. Both friends should use the same complete set. Crawl on Demand uses Left Alt by default.

Commands

With cheats or operator permission: /glantaren spawn and /glantaren nightmare. Use /glantaren journal to recover your book, /glantaren wake to leave a nightmare, and /glantaren version to check the loaded version.

Development status

Early beta. The 1.6.0 build, resources and client startup passed. The automated gameplay test did not enter the world; bed teleport, new AI, cabin generation and two-account Essential hosting still need in-game verification. Report issues in the comments.
