One remote. Eight ways to ruin a perfectly good world.

The Doomsday Remote is a handheld controller for eight super-weapons that are wildly out of proportion with anything else in Minecraft. Point at the ground, press a key, and the camera leaves your body for a 30 to 90 second cutscene. It goes up through orbit, out of the solar system, sometimes out of the galaxy, to whatever is about to hit you. Then it rides it back down and it hits.

The damage is real, and it stays.

Every weapon has its own soundtrack that drops on the exact frame of the impact, anime-style impact frames, a hit-stop when it connects, and damage numbers that are frankly irresponsible.

Read this before you fire anything

Flashing lights. The default impact effects (OVERDRIVE) strobe hard: inverted black and white, pure white frames, neon red, cyan and magenta flashes, all in time with the music. On first launch a warning screen lets you switch to Photosensitive mode, which turns all of it off. If you, or anyone watching, could be affected by flashing images, pick that one. You can change it any time in the menu (G).

Your world will not be the same afterwards. Craters hundreds of blocks wide, canyons down to bedrock, molten trenches. None of it rolls back. Back up your world before you start experimenting. OMEGA zips up a backup by itself before it fires, the rest don’t. Server owners can switch off terrain changes completely with allowTerrainDestruction in config/doomsdayremote.json.

New in 4.0: Starfall Requiem

The Vael prism beam hitting the Kharn titan

Forty-one million light-years away, two empires have been at war for nine thousand years. The Vael are a crystal hive, and their warships are huge singing prisms that fight with refracted light. The Kharn are biomechanical giants, and their flagship is more or less a living titan: armour plating, organic engines, veins that glow. Neither of them knows we exist.

Fire Starfall Requiem and you watch that war. Beams crossing a nebula, cruisers burning, fighter swarms, the camera weaving through all of it with every cut landing on the beat of a hard phonk track. On the biggest drop the Vael pour every ship’s light into one prism and fire it straight through the titan.

The titan’s heart gets blasted out across space. You chase it through the void, past the Sun, past our Moon, into the atmosphere (red hot, then white hot, sonic booms), and one second of dead silence later it lands wherever you were pointing.

Atmospheric entry

Earth impact

It doesn’t vanish afterwards. The wreck stays in the crater, built out of real blocks: armour plates, living tissue, veins that still glow, fires and smoke columns. You can walk around inside it. And unless you switch Survivors off, a few Kharn crawl out of it and come looking for you.

The rest of the arsenal

Titan Fist (Z) The right arm of a war machine too big to ever land. It falls from orbit wrapped in re-entry fire and punches a crater shaped like its knuckles, then the shockwave rings flatten everything around it.

Titan Fist crater

Heaven-Splitter (V) Time stops. A blade the size of the sky comes down once. You see the cut before you hear it, and the land ends up in two pieces, all the way down to bedrock.

Heaven-Splitter canyon

Singularity Seed (B) A pearl of collapsed matter. Plant it and it grows into a black hole that eats a perfect sphere out of the world, then folds shut and leaves glass behind.

Singularity Seed

Leviathan Fleet (U) Seven living warships tear out of fold-space and walk a line of plasma craters across the map. They don’t really aim. They don’t have to.

Leviathan Fleet

Helios Array (H, two marks) A swarm of mirrors around the Sun folds its light into a single beam and drags it from your first mark to your second. What’s left is a glowing molten trench.

Helios Array trench at night

The Andromeda Spindle (N) An artifact older than our Sun wakes up in another galaxy, spins up its glyph rings and fires a lance across 2.5 million light-years. It drills into the Earth. Then the ground blows out.

The Andromeda Spindle

Final Protocol: OMEGA (menu only) The last card in the menu, behind two confirmations. The sky cracks, a gate the size of a planet opens overhead, and that’s the end of the story for everyone standing in that world. Your save is zipped up first, then everyone there wakes up in the Afterworld: shattered floating islands under a broken moon. Admins can bring people home with /doomsday pardon.

OMEGA

Why it feels like that

  • A score for every weapon. Each cutscene has its own track, split into intro, build-up, drop and outro. The music goes almost silent right before the hit and slams back in on the impact frame, and the camera cuts are timed to the beat.
  • Impact frames. Manga ink frames, inverted strobes, shattered glass, brush-stroke impact glyphs. Five levels from Off to OVERDRIVE.
  • Hit-stop. When a big hit connects during a cutscene, the world, the particles and the sound freeze for a few frames, then everything snaps back in slow motion.
  • Damage numbers. Huge, ink-outlined, shaking, with CRITICAL! and OVERKILL!! on the big ones. There’s a toggle if you’re above that sort of thing.
  • Destruction that doesn’t freeze your server. Big jobs are spread over several ticks with a shared block budget, so even a few weapons going off at once stay playable.

OVERDRIVE vs Photosensitive mode Same hit. OVERDRIVE on the left, Photosensitive mode on the right.

Getting started

Creative: everything is in the Doomsday Remote creative tab.

Survival: the recipe unlocks the first time you hold a Nether Star.

N E N N = Block of Netherite E = End Crystal
D S D D = Block of Diamond S = Nether Star
N R N R = Recovery Compass
What Key
Fire the selected weapon at your crosshair Right-click with the remote
Switch weapon Sneak + right-click
Weapon menu G
Skip a cutscene / cancel targeting J
Titan Fist, Heaven-Splitter, Singularity Seed, Leviathan Fleet Z, V, B, U
Helios Array, Andromeda Spindle, Starfall Requiem H, N, K
Final Protocol: OMEGA menu only

Every key can be rebound under Options > Controls > Doomsday Remote. The weapon keys work as long as the remote is somewhere in your inventory.

The menu

The weapon menu

Each weapon gets a card with its lore, a live schematic and three sliders:

  • Power: how big. The default is already huge. Turn it all the way down and it fits in a back garden.
  • Damage: up to ∞ ERASURE, which simply deletes whatever is caught in the blast.
  • Speed: plays the whole cutscene at anything from 0.3x to 3x.

Along the bottom you’ll find cutscenes on/off, Photosensitive mode, impact intensity, damage numbers, terrain destruction, quality, screen shake, and separate music and effects volume.

Bring your own music

Every soundtrack can be swapped. On first launch the mod creates an empty folder at .minecraft/config/doomsdayremote/music/. Drop Ogg Vorbis files in there named <weapon>_<section>.ogg, where the sections are intro, build, drop and outro, and the weapon names are titan_fist, heaven_splitter, singularity_seed, leviathan_fleet, helios_array, andromeda_spindle, starfall_requiem and omega. Anything you leave out keeps the built-in music. Make your drop file start right on the big downbeat and it will land on the impact.

Requirements

Minecraft 1.21.1 (Java Edition)
Fabric Loader 0.17.0 or newer

GeckoLib 4.9.x for Fabric 1.21.1
Java 21

Install it on both the client and the server.

FAQ

Does it work in multiplayer? Yes. Everyone sees and hears the strikes. Only the player who fired loses their camera to the cutscene, and everyone else gets a toned-down version of the impact frames.

Can I skip the cutscenes? Press J during one to jump straight to the impact. Or turn Cutscenes off in the menu, and the weapons fire on a short timeline without taking over the camera.

Is there an undo? No. Back up your world. If something is mid-strike and you need it gone, an op can run /doomsday stop to abort every running strike.

Will it lag? High Power moves a lot of blocks, but the work is spread out with a configurable per-tick budget (blocksPerTick in the config). On a weaker PC, lower that and set Quality to Low in the menu.

Forge? NeoForge? Other versions? Fabric 1.21.1 only, for now.

I make videos. Am I going to get claimed? The Starfall phonk track wasn’t registered with YouTube Content ID when this version came out. The other seven tracks are Kevin MacLeod’s and only need a credit line in your video description. The exact lines are in CREDITS.md inside the mod.
