Something is haunting your world.

At first, it’s nothing. A figure on a distant hill, gone before you can reach it.. Footsteps behind you.. A torch that wasn’t red this morning…

Then it comes closer. To your bed, to your home.. To you.

And one day, it leaves you a map.

Don’t follow it.

What is it?

Don’t Follow the Map is a horror mod that takes its time. Nothing happens on your first day. After that, Herobrine starts showing up, a bit closer each time: at first he just watches you, then he starts messing with your world, and after a few days he actually comes after you.

Things you might notice

I don’t want to spoil too much, but here’s a taste:

• someone standing far away, who really doesn’t like being stared at
• footsteps and noises behind you (only you can hear them)
• your torches acting weird when you’re not looking
• signs and small builds showing up around your house
• animals that keep staring at you
• a “player” walking around your base… who isn’t a player
• something following you while you mine
• tunnels that aren’t as empty as they should be
• waking up somewhere you definitely didn’t fall asleep

Once he starts hunting you, hiding won’t get you very far. I spent a lot of time trying to cheese him with walls, pillars, shields and water. It doesn’t work anymore.

The map

At some point, he leaves you a map..
If you follow it, it will lead you to what keeps him locked away. Break it and you get a real boss fight, with its own music. Win, and everyone on the server gets some peace for a while.

Atmosphere

• Original ambience, appearance sound and fight music, made for this mod
• When he’s watching you, your get a visual screen effect.
• The fog gets thicker when he’s around
• And yes, he messes with your F3 screen and debug hitboxes too

Good to know

• works in multiplayer, each player gets their own haunting
• almost everything can be turned off or tuned in config/dontfollowthemap.json
• ops can check, trigger or reset a haunting with /dontfollowthemap
• needs Fabric API and Minecraft 26.3, installed on both client and server
• available in English and French
• feel free to put it in your modpacks

Best played alone, at night, with the sound on. Have fun (or not).
