Damage – Less Slots

A risk mechanic mod for Fabric. Every time you take damage, each heart of damage triggers a separate 50/50 roll to lock a random inventory slot. Get hit for four hearts and you get four rolls, each one animated and resolved individually.

What happens when you get hit

For every heart of damage you actually take:

1. A coin flip decides if a random slot gets locked.
2. If it locks, the item sitting in that slot is destroyed and the slot becomes unusable.
3. A roulette strip spins under your crosshair with a random intro phrase, then reveals the result.
4. Once the animation finishes, a chat message announces the outcome to everyone on the server.

Multiple rolls from the same hit queue up and play one after another instead of overlapping.

Slot locking

Locking covers your entire inventory: main inventory, hotbar, armor and the offhand slot. A locked slot is fully sealed off:

• You can’t place an item into it or take one out.
• Shift clicking, drag and drop, and armor auto-equip on right click are all blocked.
• The F key offhand swap and Q key drop are blocked too if the slot involved is locked.
• Picking up a new item off the ground will skip locked slots and land in a real free one instead of getting eaten.

Locked slots show a pulsing red barrier icon, both inside the inventory screen and directly over the hotbar and offhand while your inventory is closed.

Commands

• /lessslots lockall <targets> instantly locks every slot for the given players and wipes their contents, same as what a full roulette sweep would do.
• /lessslots unlock <targets> clears every lock for the given players.

Both require operator permissions. Console and command blocks can always run them.

Localization

All chat messages and HUD text follow the player’s own client language automatically. English and Russian are included out of the box; anything else falls back to English.

Notes

• The lock chance is currently fixed at 50% per heart, there’s no config file yet.
• This is a pure risk/chaos mechanic, not a permanent debuff. Locked slots stay locked until an operator clears them with /lessslots unlock.
