A mod that makes Minecraft load, generate and save chunks faster, so you spend less time waiting on your world.

So what is Chromite?

Chromite is a performance mod focused on world loading and chunk work. It speeds up creating new worlds, opening saved ones, exploring new terrain, and saving and loading chunks. It’s available for NeoForge, Fabric and Forge.

Vanilla Minecraft does most of this work one step at a time, on very few threads, even when your CPU has plenty of cores sitting idle. Chromite gives that work to those idle cores and skips the work the game never needed to do in the first place.

How does it work?

Generating terrain. Vanilla builds the expensive parts of the world (the surface, caves, decorations) one chunk after another. Chromite builds several chunks at the same time, and starts with the ones closest to you, so the ground around you appears first and fills in outwards.

Opening a world. Chunks around you start loading while you’re still on the loading screen instead of waiting for it to finish. A lot of start-up work that used to run one piece at a time now runs side by side.

Saving. Saving a chunk is heavy, and in vanilla the main thread does much of it. Chromite hands that work to helper threads, so saving causes far fewer lag spikes, and save-all finishes much sooner. Vanilla also writes back every chunk it loads, even if nothing changed, so Chromite skips those pointless saves.

Loading. Chunk data is prepared in the background before the game asks for it, which leaves the main thread free for everything else, like ticking, players and more chunks.

Less wasted work. Large parts of the terrain are obviously just air or plain stone, so Chromite fills them in directly instead of working out every single block.

World size. Chunks are compressed with a fast native library, so your worlds come out slightly smaller too.
