Chronicles Permadeath — the Perpetual Covenant

Turn death into a real choice. Chronicles Permadeath adds an opt-in permadeath mode
to an Origins + JustLeveling RPG setup. Any player may swear the Perpetual Covenant to gain
powerful boons — but from that moment on, death unmakes them. It’s a self-imposed hardcore
mode with real teeth and real rewards: fully optional, and per character.

⚔️ How it works

Type /chronicles permadeath to read the terms, then /chronicles permadeath confirm to swear.
While bound, you become a glass cannon:

Boons

• ⚔️ Strength — you hit harder
• 🍀 +1 Luck — better loot rolls
• 🛡️ Resistance — you take less damage
• ✨ 2× XP — level up twice as fast

The price

• ❤️ You start at a single heart. Level your build (Constitution, etc.) to earn health back.
• ☠️ Any death is a full character re-roll — you re-pick your Origin from scratch and your
  JustLeveling progress is wiped.

The covenant is per life: you can’t back out while alive, but death ends the run — and your
reborn character is free to swear it again. Every covenant death is announced to the server,
so glory and downfall alike become part of the story.

📜 Commands

All commands are usable by any player — no OP or cheats required.

📦 Requirements

This is a companion mod designed for the Camputron Chronicles modpack, and it relies on
that setup’s supporting pieces:

• Minecraft 1.20.1, Forge 47.x
• JustLeveling (Fork) — required; the mod resets its aptitudes/levels on death
• Origins / Otherworld Origins — for the character re-roll
• Companion datapack (reset_origin_on_death) — drives the covenant engine (the opt-in
  pipeline, the Luck/Strength/Resistance boons, the Origin reset, and death broadcasts). Load
  it globally (e.g. with Paxi) or drop it into your world’s datapacks/ folder.

Without these it won’t function as intended — it is not a standalone permadeath mod.

🖥️ Servers & multiplayer

• All gameplay logic is server-side. Install the mod + datapack on the server, and the
  same mod jar on every client (Forge requires matching mod lists to connect).
• Restart the server after installing/updating.

• Everything is opt-in and per-character — non-committed players are completely unaffected.
