Better Weather: Reborn

Better Weather: Reborn brings the classic Better Weather experience back to life on modern Minecraft – now on Forge 1.20.1 and NeoForge 1.21.1, with the long-standing crashes and broken features finally fixed.

This is a maintained continuation of Better Weather by Corgi Taco and Better Weather: Revived by Mysticpasta1 (both discontinued). All credit for the original mod and its assets goes to them.

Weather Events

• Acid Rain – a sickly green downpour that occasionally hurts mobs and players caught outside, slowly decays vegetation and turns grass to dirt. Smoke rises where the drops land.
• Blizzard – fast-moving thick snow, dense fog and howling wind. Snow piles up in layers on the ground and water freezes over.
• Cloudy – overcast skies that dim the sun without a single drop of rain.
• Rain & Thunderstorms – the vanilla weather, integrated into the event system, with thundering variants of every event.

Features

• Every event is fully configurable per world (config/betterweather/<dimension>/weather/events/*.toml): chances, colors, fog, sky opacity, textures, sounds, snow layering, entity effects, acid rain damage and block decay, and more.
• /bw setweather <event> [length] (or /betterweather setweather ...) to force any weather event, with tab-completion.
• Weather state is saved with your world and restored on load.
• Blizzard ambience with positional audio sampling.
• Works in singleplayer and on servers (client and server must both have the mod).

Fixed compared to the old Revived builds

• Crash as soon as weather rendered (the infamous renderWeatherLegacy NPE).
• Blizzard rendering used a random texture (it was never bound) and tore its snow sheets apart.
• Weather was invisible when events were loaded from config files.
• Snow layers, ice formation, acid rain damage and weather sounds silently never worked.
• Crash on respawn / dimension change.
• Disconnect when changing weather (1.21.1).
• Multi-second freeze at every weather transition.
• Heavy FPS drops during acid rain.
• Weather state was never actually saved on Windows.

Known Issue

• enderman can take damage in cloudy weather (like it’s was rainning)

Planned featured

• since there are blizzard, sandstorm can be nice on desert
