Bob’s Datapack
This datapack is basically a few weird addons that I added to minecraft while I was sick and off my meds. It adds (semi) realistic injuries for players and mobs and a few other things.

介绍
Warning: this datapack contains self harm, although it is self harm in the form of making blood sacrifices. I’ll still put this warning in just in case it’s required.
Also this datapack is still in development, but it doesn’t have a set upload schedule, so I might randomly take a week-long break between uploads, but that doesn’t mean that I’ve randomly stopped working on it. Basically, while I don’t intend on ending development any time soon, I do have a life outside of programming, and I’m not very organised. I also might spam updates too, so sorry about that. I usually just play the datapack and change things whenever I find something I want to change, so it’s quite random.
This datapack is essentially an unbalanced trip made by me while I was sick and off my meds. It adds (semi) realistic injuries for both players and mobs, and a few basic changes, such as making diamond tools and armor unbreakable (only when crafted by the player), mobs spawning with weapons and armor (after a certain point in the game), and a few new items. It adds a new death penalty system where you lose one heart each time you die, to a minimum of 5 hearts (keep inventory is enabled), and have to regain them by crafting shots (as in injections, not alchohol). It also has a few weird things that I added when I was really sick, including a custom dimension that you can go to (it might take a while to get there). It does have slight horror elements, but it’s not that scary, since this IS still Minecraft. The horror elements will take a bit to come in, and they aren’t very good since I have no imagination. I added a guide book that should tell you everything you need to know, but here are a few things that I forgot to add that I think I should go over:
- Since this does have slight horror elements, I just want to clarify that this does not involve just randomly damaging the player. This means that if you keep randomly taking half a heart of damage, it is from a head injury. If you randomly have your max health reduced (not from dying) it is likely an infection. I don’t enjoy horror mods that just kill you or add immortal entities that one shot you. The horror elements in my datapack are very easy to overcome if you use the right tactics, and are more annoying than scary anyway. The real horror is when a zombie with full diamond armor charges out of nowhere and kills you (this only happens in late game, or in the hard mode version of this datapack, more on that later).
- I know bandages don’t stop bleeding, but since you bleed out at a rate of half a heart every thirty seconds, you can just hold crouch to heal faster than you bleed out. If you can’t heal from crouching because you’re on under one-third health, that’s when you should use bandages. Bandages used to heal bleeding, but it became pointless once I introduced crouching to heal 2 hearts every 12 seconds. I know it’s weird that they don’t stop bleeding. They used to, but when I added the ability to crouch to heal, just stopping bleeding became pointless, so healing it is.
- The version says that it’s for 1.21.9 to 1.21.11, although it was made in 1.21.11 so I don’t know how it’ll fare in older versions, but I trust Modrinth’s detect versions feature to pick the right versions. This doesn’t apply to the newer versions, which are for 26.3.
- While the guide implies that They can be killed, I just want to mention that They can in fact take damage, but They do have quite a bit of health. Stay at a distance and use a bow, unless you have very good armour. The guide does say most of this, but I did notice that it looks like They aren’t taking any damage when you hit them, so I want to make sure that people know that They can die so that they don’t complain about the invulnerable entities that wont go away.
- If you want to fully heal your injuries you need to be on over 2 thirds health. If you want an annoying effect to go away, wait until you’ve fully healed and then wait longer. You can speed it up with potions of regeneration or sleeping in a bed to heal faster. If your max health is only 5 hearts because you keep dying, you will need to get shots for injuries to fully heal (they will still partially heal, but they won’t fully heal).
- Rocks look like grey dye. Since I am a degenerate who plays with old textures, they look fine to me, but they look kind of weird if you have new textures. This datapack does not require a resource pack (I might add one in the future but right now I won’t) so it does reuse textures from the base game. This means that most custom items might look weird. Each custom item’s texture isn’t what the item looks like in my head, but is just a representation of what the item looks like. I’m not the most experienced in datapack creation, so making a custom resource pack would be quite hard for me and I would need to update that as well as the datapack, which would be very time consuming. When this datapack nears completion I might make a resource pack, but for now I’m using placeholder textures. Personally, I don’t mind and most of my friends don’t seem to mind, but I know that some people enjoy high quality datapacks. I usually prefer functionality over graphics. At least you can add this datapack to a server without telling your friends due to the lack of client-side downloads required.
- I said this in the guide, but if a recipe says in the recipe book that it requires skeleton spawn eggs, just use rocks. Rocks are just highly edited skeleton spawn eggs that can’t spawn anything, because you can’t detect components in a custom crafting recipe. Also please check the recipe book because I can’t fit anything else in the guide due to command length limitations, so all the recipes are in the built in recipe book.
- I mentioned hard mode earlier, but I didn’t really get into it. Hard mode is automatically activated when you beat the game, or when you enable it with commands. I highly recommend not playing hard mode until you get a feel for the datapack and are willing to die a lot. Hard mode is essentially what I originally wanted to make, but decided not to because I was using this datapack for a server and I didn’t want people complaining about it’s difficulty. It essentially makes mobs able to spawn with weapons, armor, and potion effects right at the start of the game instead of later on in the game (actually terrifying), sets the difficulty to hard, makes injuries take ages to heal (which in turn makes infections actually deadly), makes your hunger decrease faster, removes your ability to crouch to heal faster, and makes it so that you respawn ages away from your spawn point (around 2000 blocks). It does other stuff, but that includes spoilers and also it changes a lot so if you really want to find out just look in the code or play it yourself. Just don’t blame me when you get violently murdered by 20 zombies and skeletons with varying levels of overpowered gear on night one.
- A recent update added fog to the game. The fog doesn’t appear too often, but if you’re playing with a resource pack it might cause the fog to get a lot thicker when it’s raining. I don’t know why this happens, but it seems to happen with the resouce pack I use to make the game look more like old Minecraft because I am a boomer (fun fact: I am way too young to have played old Minecraft when it was first released so I legitimatly just enjoy the older textures over the newer ones instead of it being nostalgia). I personally don’t mind, but that’s because I am a degenerate. The default textures are fine, though.
Okay, anyway, what do I say as an outro? Idk just go play it or keep doomscrolling. Also no, my name isn’t actually Bob, I just made a character called bob (without the capital I know the title has a capital but that’s to keep it tidy) when I was younger and I reused the datapack files from then because I couldn’t be bothered making another datapack. This datapack was inspired by Better Than Wolves, Wonderland.jar (although I focused more on the dimensions than the horror, and there’s only one dimension in my datapack at the moment), and Overly Realistic. Also the photo on the front is my cat Storm.
