MI-AE2 Pattern Provider

A bridge between Modern Industrialization / Extended Industrialization and Applied Energistics 2.

This mod adds the ME Pattern Provider Hatch — a single block that replaces all four input/output hatches of the Extended Industrialization Processing Array while also acting as an AE2 pattern provider, so your ME network can push autocrafting patterns straight into the array.

Features

  • ME Pattern Provider Hatch — 9 pattern slots. Combines the four item/fluid input & output hatches of the Processing Array into one block.
  • ME Extended Pattern Provider Hatch — 36 pattern slots (4×9), matching ExtendedAE‘s extended pattern provider. Requires ExtendedAE.
  • Full AE2 integration — network status, a dedicated terminal name (xxx Processing Array Pattern Provider Hatch), and patterns drop when the block is broken.
  • Upgradable — shift right-click with an ExtendedAE Pattern Provider Upgrade to upgrade to the extended hatch, or craft it in the Crystal Assembler.
  • Wrench support — right-clicking with a wrench (MI recognises wrenches through the common c:tools/wrench tag, so other mods’ wrenches work as well) opens the machine configuration GUI as a fallback.
  • In-game guide — the manual opens Modern Industrialization’s own guidebook straight at this mod’s chapter, so the sidebar is MI’s full chapter list with this one at the end. The pages cover setup, the hatch’s slots and both GUIs, autocrafting behaviour, upgrade cards, the overclock modules and troubleshooting, and are translated to Simplified Chinese. Craft it from the MI Guidebook plus any glass cable, or take it from MI’s creative tab right next to MI’s own guidebook.
  • Advanced Overclock Module — fits the Overdrive Module slot of any MI electric machine, including the Processing Array controller. Unlike MI’s Overdrive Module it jumps straight to maximum efficiency and releases the recipe as soon as it finishes, instead of crawling up from zero and locking the recipe until the module is pulled out. Implemented through MI’s official MIHookEfficiency hook — vanilla overdrive behaviour is untouched.
  • Quantum Overclock Module — the Advanced module’s upgrade, fitting the same slot (the two are mutually exclusive): it keeps all of the Advanced module’s effects and raises the Processing Array’s parallel batch ceiling from “machine count” to “machine count × multiplier” (default 4×, configurable 2–16×; a 64-machine array → 256 parallel). EU and time scale with the multiplier (4× speed = 4× EU/t and 4× total energy — no free throughput). The multiplier lives in config/mi_ae2_pattern_provider-common.toml under [quantum_overclock] parallel_multiplier, and with Cloth Config installed you can also change it in-game; changes apply to the next recipe calculation, no restart needed. The Quantum module only fits a Processing Array controller — dropping it into an ordinary machine is refused with a chat-message hint instead of silently doing nothing, while the Advanced and vanilla modules still fit anywhere.

Known limitations

  • One pattern provider hatch per array. A Processing Array accepts only one (extended version included). Placing a second one makes the whole multiblock report an invalid structure until the extra hatch is removed.
  • The quantum multiplier is a ceiling, not a fixed batch size. The array still derives the real batch from the available inputs and free output space, so over-driving a high-output recipe yields smaller batches rather than voiding products.
  • Extreme recipes. Recipes whose total EU × multiplier exceeds 2^31 hit a pre-existing upstream overflow (the array stores recipeEnergy as a long but reads it back as an int) — avoid pointing a high multiplier at powder-style extreme recipes such as the Packer’s quantum upgrade.

Textures

Block and item textures are derived from the mods above, then modified by hand (or by short deterministic recolouring scripts). Each file keeps its original licence and is marked as modified:

  • me_pattern_provider_hatch.png ← AE2 block/pattern_provider.png (LGPL-3.0) — outer frame repainted by hand.
  • me_extended_pattern_provider_hatch.png ← ExtendedAE block/ex_pattern_provider.png (LGPL-3.0) — same treatment.
  • me_pattern_provider_hatch_overlay_side.png ← Modern Industrialization hatch side overlay (MIT) — recoloured by hand.
  • advanced_overclock_module.png, quantum_overclock_module.png ← MI item/overdrive_module.png (MIT) — hue/saturation adjustment only.
  • guide.png ← MI item/guidebook.png (MIT) — hue/saturation adjustment only.
  • Project icon — this mod’s own hatch texture upscaled 32×, with MI’s item/wrench.png used as-is and a hand-added outline.

Credits

This mod integrates with, but does not bundle or redistribute, any code from:

  • ExtendedAE (LGPL-3.0) — the extended hatch reuses its ex_pattern_provider menu type for its GUI and paging.
  • ExtendedAE-Plus (LGPL-3.0-or-later) — upgrade cards and pattern paging. Integration is optional and degrades gracefully.
  • AppliedFlux (LGPL-3.0) — optional upgrade slot provider.
