A legendary castle floats above your world. Gardens full of flowers, silent robots, ancient halls and a crystal that keeps it all in the air. Find a way up, uncover its secrets, and become the keeper of Laputa.

Unofficial fan project by Megh, inspired by the classic anime film. Not affiliated with or endorsed by Studio Ghibli. All models, textures and buildings are original work.

Every new world gets one giant floating island, almost 400 blocks wide, from Y 180 up to Y 582, right next to the spawn point. The first time you join, you look straight up at it: the dark hemisphere breaking through the clouds, the rings of arches and towers, and the huge tree crown on top.

Getting up there is your first adventure. Build a flapping glider or an airship, climb with flight boots, or find the root hatch underneath. Once you are up, the island is peaceful on the outside and full of secrets on the inside.

GIFs recorded with the shader pack Complementary Reimagined (via Oculus), except the waterfall (the shader makes falling water almost invisible). The mod itself needs no shaders and works with them.

The island

• Gardens and meadows under a giant tree crown, with flowers, ponds, foxes, rabbits, bees and parrots
• Gentle garden robots that tend the flowers and hand you one if you ask nicely
• Four ring levels full of halls: libraries, indoor gardens, crystal chambers, treasure rooms, workshops
• Round towers sealed with rune stones (open them with the Ancient Key)
• The arch bridge and the misty cleft
• A waterfall with a hidden tunnel behind it
• Throne room, archive and control room (handmade rooms)
• The core hall inside the dark hemisphere, with the giant crystal
• The root hatch: a way in from below for pilots

No monsters or phantoms spawn on the island, and there is no shadow on the ground below it. Ambient sounds and calm music play while you are up there.

Flying

You get the blueprints from sky-pirate hideouts, abandoned mines, sky islands and the archive. A blueprint is not used up when you craft.

Boss and keeper

Place a Laputa Crystal into the crystal socket at the end of the bridge in the core hall. That wakes the Ancient Warden, a flying boss with three phases that calls sentinel robots.

Defeat it and you become the Keeper of Laputa:

• The sentinels stand down.
• The control console obeys you: turn the defense on or off, or call a garden robot as your companion.

Items

• Levistone: slow falling while held. Found as ore in mountains.
• Laputa Crystal: slow falling and night vision.
• Airship Compass: points to the island.
• Flight Boots: higher jumps, gliding while sneaking, no fall damage.
• Robot Core: wakes a garden robot as a companion.
• Guardian Laser: boss reward.
• Island Core: raises your own small floating island.

In the world

• Sky islands high above the land, some with loot
• Abandoned mines in mountains and hills
• Sky-pirate hideouts with blueprints and guards

Important

• Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge 47.x or Fabric) and Minecraft 1.21.1 (NeoForge 21.1.x or Fabric). Fabric needs the Fabric API. Needed on client and server.
• New worlds only. The mod raises the Overworld build height to Y 639.
• Set render distance to at least 16 chunks to see the whole island.
• Every version is tested on a real dedicated server with two players: both in one airship, flight seen by the other player, cannon, 12 s glider flight without being kicked (the server default allow-flight=false is fine).
• Commands for ops: /laputa finden (find the island), /laputa ansicht 1-11 (viewpoints), /laputa insel (build another island, e.g. in superflat worlds).
