Crying obsidian has always been the block nobody knew what to do with. Not anymore.

PortalTears turns crying obsidian into the key to the Nether. Travel between dimensions without building a single portal, farm crying obsidian with charged creepers, collect its tears drop by drop, and send mobs to the other side with potions, arrows and sulfur cubes.

🟣 Ender Pearl Shortcut

Throw an ender pearl at crying obsidian and it won’t just teleport you a few blocks: it sends you straight to the Nether. Do it again in the Nether to come back to the Overworld.

⚡ Charged Creepers Make It Cry

When a charged creeper explodes next to an active nether portal, every obsidian block in the blast has a 50% chance to turn into crying obsidian. The portal breaks, but you get a renewable source of crying obsidian.

💧 Tears in a Cauldron

Put crying obsidian on top of a block, hang a pointed dripstone from that block and place an empty cauldron below the tip.

• About every 2 Minecraft days, the crying obsidian drips purple tears and fills the whole cauldron at once, like lava.
• The crying obsidian then dries up into normal obsidian.
• The Tears Cauldron glows softly and hums like a distant portal.

Use a glass bottle on it to get a Tears Potion, or let a dispenser with glass bottles do it for you.

🧪 Tears Potion

A purple potion that sends whoever it touches to the Nether, or back to the Overworld.

🧊 Portal Cube

Feed crying obsidian to a sulfur cube and it gets its own archetype: light, barely bouncy, floating, and surrounded by portal particles.

Launch it fast enough and every mob it slams into is sent to the other dimension. Perfect for mob farms. It never sends players, and the crying obsidian is never used up.

🏆 Advancements

Five new advancements in the Nether tab, branching from Who is Cutting Onions?:

• Between Tears – Travel to the Nether with an ender pearl and crying obsidian
• Crying All Night – Let crying obsidian drip until a cauldron fills up
• Sweet Tears – Drink a Tears Potion
• Electric Tears – Have a charged creeper turn obsidian into crying obsidian
• Portal Cube – Send a mob to the other side with a sulfur cube
