Collect DNA. Combine creatures. Create your own mutant.

What happens when a hydra head meets a sheep body, spider legs and giant golem arms? Metamorphs lets you find out. Build modular creatures whose parts shape their abilities, temperament and movement.

Choose from 714 source parts in Minecraft 1.20.1, or 733 in 1.21.1. Six body plans include biped, quadruped, spider, crawler, centaur and gorilla, with up to three heads and six arms.

New in 0.19.0

• Reworked Steve builders: clearer work priorities, steadier gathering and construction, more efficient resource searches, exploration and recovery from unreachable jobs.
• Builders retain paid construction progress, cooperate with nearby residents and disengage from stalled fights. Critically injured residents retreat and can consume stored food to recover.
• Shift + right-click with a stick shows Steve’s work status; with a compass requests a return home; with an empty hand opens his inventory.
• Replaced the remaining experimental creature assets with original Metamorphs geometry and pixel textures, including the Moss Bull and Copper Beetle. Existing DNA keys remain valid; older creatures use the new appearances.
• Includes the stackable DNA Samples and craftable 54-slot DNA Field Bag introduced in 0.18.0.

Create creatures in survival

Collect DNA Samples from mobs. Craft a DNA Capsule with 4 iron ingots, 4 glass blocks and 1 redstone dust. Insert samples from three different donors, then press Create. The capsule combines parts from that donor pool. Three animals of the same species can qualify; three copies of one donor cannot.

Craft the DNA Field Bag with 6 leather, 2 string and 1 chest. It stores up to 3,456 DNA samples across 54 slots.

Parts with a purpose

• Inherit hydra fire, Enderman teleportation, spider climbing, shearable sheep wool and speed bonuses from animal limbs.
• Fly using wings or jetpacks, land and attack on the ground.
• Use melee and ranged attacks, multiple armed hands, mechanical rockets and rare animated Arcblades.
• Tame eligible wolf/cat heads, breed compatible creatures and ride suitable saddled horse builds.
• Meet Steve-headed builders that gather resources, mine, farm, cooperate, build homes sized for their bodies and defend settlements. Villager heads offer randomized trades.

How many combinations?

The 714-part baseline explicit-DNA constructor supports 28,827,262,341,380,125,464,700,959,287,193,600 valid ordered part combinations, approximately 28.8 decillion (2.88 × 10³⁴). The additional 1.21.1 parts are outside this baseline calculation.

This counts compatible source-part assignments, not distinct appearances or separately registered mob species. It excludes size, textures and equipment. A capsule is limited to its own donor pool. Ordinary 32-bit seeded random generation has at most 4,294,967,296 outputs.

Download the file matching your Minecraft version and loader from this project’s Files section.

• 1.20.1: Forge or Fabric; Java 17.
• 1.21.1: Forge, NeoForge or Fabric; Java 21.
• Install the matching 0.19.0 mod JAR on both client and server.
• Fabric editions also require the matching Fabric API (0.92.12+1.20.1 or 0.116.17+1.21.1).

In Creative, use the Metamorphs tab, spawn egg or assembler. In Survival, use the DNA Capsule. Existing DNA and worlds remain supported; no world reset is required.

Code and original creature assets: All Rights Reserved. The current release uses original Metamorphs creature geometry and pixel atlases. Arcblade audio uses Kenney’s CC0 Sci-Fi Sounds. Minecraft textures are provided by the installed game and belong to Mojang/Microsoft. Independent project, not affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft.

The author previously estimated approximately 30% AI assistance in production. This update also used AI assistance for code, tools, tests and publishing copy. The DNA Sample inventory texture and promotional project icon were generated with AI. The icon is conceptual artwork, not a gameplay screenshot. Gameplay gallery images are actual Minecraft captures.
