Wayfarer’s Journal

Wayfarer’s Journal is a GUI resource pack for the Nytheria modpack, for Minecraft Java 1.21 / 1.21.1 (pack_format 34, tested on Fabric). Every vanilla GUI is redrawn as a traveller’s journal: parchment pages, a navy leather binding with gold stitching, brass corner caps and a plum ribbon. The GUIs of the installed mods follow the same look, and tooltips get a night-ink body with a brass border.

The gallery images show the survival inventory, the creative inventory, a large chest, the workstations, villager trading, an options menu, the HUD, two mod screens (Sophisticated storage and EMI) and the Xaero’s Minimap frame.

What you get

• Parchment inventories. Every container screen is a journal page with inked mauve slot wells. Entity windows are night-sky windows. Empty slots show sepia ghost icons.
• Creative inventory. Navy tabs, gold corner caps, a stitched binding.
• Campfire Journal buttons and sliders. Navy, notched, with a gold rim and ember sparks on hover. Text fields use the parchment style.
• A new HUD. Hearts, hunger, armour, air, XP, hotbar, crosshair, boss bars and the locator bar.
• Journal menus. Translucent leather backgrounds, brass separators, toasts, lists and advancements.
• Recipe book, villager trades, beacon (also BetterBeacons) and the book page in the same style.
• Mod GUIs converted. 85 mods of the Nytheria modpack: parchment for screens with item slots, the navy button family for config screens, popups and dark panels. Mod artwork is kept. FTB Quests, Jade and EMI have matching themes.
• Xaero’s Minimap frame. The minimap is bound in navy leather with gold stitching and gold corners.
• Tooltips. Night-ink tooltips with a brass border and a warm brass slot glow, built into the pack. See below.

Mods that are not in the Nytheria modpack keep their own look, and so does mod artwork (books, themed backgrounds, icons).

Installation

1. Download the release zip Wayfarer's Journal v1.0.0.zip.
2. Put it in .minecraft/resourcepacks (or your launcher instance’s resourcepacks folder).
3. In-game: Options -> Resource Packs -> move Wayfarer’s Journal to the right column and put it above the resource packs that mods add themselves (the built-in mod packs). If one of those packs is above it, its textures win and that mod keeps its own look.
   Important: If you zip it yourself, the archive root must contain pack.mcmeta, pack.png, CREDITS.txt and assets/ – not an extra parent folder with those inside.

Jade tooltip: Jade does not switch to a new theme on its own. Open Jade’s settings and select the theme Wayfarer’s Journal (jade:wayfarersjournal). Or set "activeTheme": "jade:wayfarersjournal" in the overlay section of config/jade/jade.json while the game is closed.

Tooltips

The pack recolours tooltips (night-ink body, brass border) and the slot hover glow. Minecraft 1.21.1 draws these in code, so the pack includes two core shaders. There is nothing extra to install or enable.

Driver risk: if a graphics driver cannot compile one of the two shaders, Minecraft 1.21.1 turns off all selected resource packs (no crash). If that happens, remove Wayfarer’s Journal from the list (the other packs then work again) and report your GPU and driver. The shaders compiled on an AMD driver; other drivers are untested.

Some mods draw tooltip-style boxes with the same colours; they get the journal look too. EMI item-list hovers and a few mod buttons keep the white hover colour.

Compatibility

• Edition: Minecraft Java Edition
• Versions: 1.21 and 1.21.1 (resource pack format 34). Newer game versions may require a higher pack_format in pack.mcmeta before the game will treat the pack as fully compatible. The tooltips are made for 1.21.1 (the pack replaces that version’s core shaders); on 1.21 they may not match.
• Loader: a resource pack does not depend on the loader. It was tested on Fabric only.
• Side: client only, not needed on a server.
• EMI Remastered: version 2.1.0 or newer reads the pack’s text colour file (assets/emi_remastered/text_colors.json). Older versions ignore it.
• Mods: the list above was checked against the mod versions of the Nytheria modpack. A mod update that moves or renames its GUI textures can leave that mod unstyled until the pack is updated.
• What a resource pack cannot change:
  • Screens drawn entirely in code keep the colours the mod gives them. This applies to parts of Sodium, Iris, YACL, Cloth Config and FTB Library.
  • Text colours hard-coded by the game or mods. Container titles are drawn in #404040; that is readable on the parchment.

The pack is released under the MIT License. The license text ships in the pack as CREDITS.txt.
