A lightweight Minecraft Forge diagnostic mod that monitors warning and error logs, records potential mod compatibility issues, and helps server administrators investigate problems.

Overview

CompatWatch is a diagnostic utility for Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1 running on Minecraft Forge.

It monitors selected warning and error log messages, analyzes recognizable error patterns, and records potential compatibility issues in a searchable diagnostic history.

Instead of automatically changing your mods or game files, CompatWatch helps you understand what happened and provides diagnostic information that you can use when investigating crashes, Mixin failures, missing classes, dependency issues, and other mod-related problems.

Features

• Automatic Log Monitoring
  Monitors selected WARN and ERROR log events through Log4j.

• Diagnostic Classification
  Recognizes several diagnostic patterns, including Mixin application failures, missing classes or methods, dependency issues, duplicate registrations, and mod initialization failures.

• Diagnostic History
  Keeps a record of detected issues, including their category, summary, timestamps, and occurrence counts.

• Duplicate Detection
  Groups matching diagnostic events instead of creating a separate history entry for every repeated occurrence.

• World-Specific Persistence
  Saves diagnostic history separately for each world, including dedicated server worlds.

• Diagnostic Commands
  Provides commands to inspect diagnostic summaries and history, as well as run controlled diagnostic tests.

Commands

All commands require permission level 2.

• /compatwatch summary — Displays a summary of recorded diagnostic issues.

• /compatwatch history — Displays diagnostic history.

• /compatwatch history <page> — Displays a specific history page.

• /compatwatch test — Creates a controlled manual test event.

• /compatwatch logtest — Generates a controlled synthetic Mixin log event to test the log monitoring pipeline.

Important: Test commands generate artificial diagnostic events. They do not indicate a real mod conflict.

Important Notes

CompatWatch is a diagnostic tool, not an automatic repair tool.

• It does not automatically fix mod conflicts.

• It does not modify or remove other mods.

• It does not guarantee that every compatibility issue will be detected.

• A detected log pattern is not necessarily proof of the actual root cause.

• Diagnostic information should be treated as investigation clues, not definitive conclusions.

Installation

1. Install Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.1.

2. Install Minecraft Forge.

3. Make sure Java 17 is available.

4. Place the CompatWatch JAR file in your Minecraft mods folder.

5. Launch the game or dedicated server.
