Tame a bird and let it carry you. Eagles live in the mountains and soul vultures in the Nether. Strap one to your back with a Falconer’s Harness: in the air it flaps you slowly upward until it tires, then glides you down. It is weaker than an elytra, but it never wears out, and it breaks your falls. A cat, a wolf or a Quark shiba can ride along too.

- 🦅 Eagles in the mountains and 🔥 Soul Vultures in the Nether, ready to be tamed.
- 🐉 Wyrmlings: with the Elder Dragon mod, the young dragons of the Far End can be tamed too. A wyrmling is the one rider that flies as well as an elytra.
- 🎒 The Falconer’s Harness: wear it in your chest slot or back slot. Use a lead to put your tame rider into it.
- ⬆️ Flying: in the air, hold jump to flap upward until the bird tires, tap jump to glide.
- 🌋 Heat: soul vultures ride the hot air rising from lava and fire.
- 🪶 Soft landings: an eagle takes half the fall damage off, a vulture three quarters, a wyrmling all of it.
- 💀 Together to the end: die while wearing it and the bird dies with you. A vulture survives when fire killed you, a wyrmling when fire or the void killed you, and they wait for you where you respawn.
- 🥚 Breeding: tame pairs breed. Every bird has one of several colourings, and very rarely a young one hatches in a rare colouring.
- 🐈 Pets on your back: a cat keeps creepers away, a wolf keeps skeletons away, and a Quark shiba fetches your arrows and finds dark corners.
- ✨ Lively birds: perched they breathe, look around and ruffle their feathers; they take off, beat their wings, soar and land.
🚀 Getting started
- Find an eagle on mountains or windswept hills. Feed it raw rabbit, raw chicken, raw cod or raw salmon. About one bite in four tames it.
- Craft a Falconer’s Harness from leather, string and an iron ingot (JEI shows the recipe).
- Put it on. Used from your hand, it goes into your back slot or your chest slot.
- Use a lead on your tame eagle. It climbs into the harness, and you keep the lead.
- Jump. In the air, hold jump to flap upward or tap jump to glide.

- Elder Dragon: tame its wyrmlings while its Lullaby Horn keeps them asleep. Like elytras, no bird flies in the Far End itself.

- JEI: a page for each bird and for the harness.
⚙️ Good to know
- Without Curios and Caelus, the harness goes into the chest slot.
- There is no config.
