Not Mine Legacy (NML) is a shared library and compatibility framework built specifically (for now) for Minecraft Forge 1.20.1. It provides the technical foundation for a growing collection of independently developed mods that revisit, reinvent and modernise concepts from older generations of Minecraft modding.

Many older Minecraft mods introduced memorable mechanics, creatures and features that were never officially brought forward to newer versions. Not Mine Legacy aims to revisit some of those ideas, giving them new life through modern implementations, updated functionality and improved compatibility.

Rather than simply reproducing the past, the goal is to build upon it.

NML Core serves as the central foundation for the wider Not Mine Legacy ecosystem.

Instead of requiring every individual module to maintain its own compatibility checks, networking helpers and shared systems, the core library provides a common set of services.

This helps individual projects work together while keeping their features and implementations independent.

Please note: Not Mine Legacy is a library mod. It does not introduce major standalone gameplay content. It is primarily required by other mods in the Not Mine Legacy collection.

INCLUSIONS

The following mods are part of the Not Mine Legacy collection and require the library to function.

Building Bridges
Provides an extensive collection of cross-mod compatibility bridges, connecting and enhancing features between mods such as Vanilla Backport, Quark, Alex’s Mobs, a majority of the NML collection, and many more.

NML Concord
A shared race, faction, alliance and reputation framework designed for the Not Mine Legacy ecosystem.

Mixed Blessings
Introduces custom enchantments, potions and status effects, including Masquerade, Vertigo and associated mechanics.

No Added Sugar
Expands Vanilla Backport with improved baby animal models and variant-specific textures, bringing “Tiny Takeover” Update to older versions.

Overdue Overhauls
Reimagines classic gameplay concepts inspired by Nekoma’s overhaul ideas, including Minecart improvements, XP modifiers and new enchantments.

Remnant Stars
Revives and expands upon a classic mod concept with celestial magic, rituals and star-related mechanics.

Tidal Accord
Enhances Sea Dwellers with expanded mermorph behaviours, aquatic interactions and new ocean-based mechanics.

What Remains
Overhauls Minecraft’s death system with persistent corpses, progressive decomposition, inventory recovery and experience preservation.

The library provides several shared systems and utilities:

Shared Compatibility Framework

Centralised mod detection and compatibility services allow individual NML modules to integrate with other installed mods without requiring those integrations to be present.

Experience Utilities

Shared experience calculations, XP storage mathematics and orb distribution helpers for modules that implement custom experience mechanics.

Entity and Environment Services

Environmental sampling tools, animal variant integration hooks, entity-related services and shared support for environment-aware behaviours.

Structure and Village Services

Persistent village identification and structure-tracking utilities for modules implementing custom settlements, navigation or entity relationships.

Networking and Visual Utilities

Common networking helpers and reusable client-side functionality, including animated entity aesthetics.

Compatibility and Stability

Targeted compatibility bridges and guarded fixes help address specific interactions between supported mods and Minecraft Forge 1.20.1.

Optional compatibility:

The core library contains compatibility services and integration hooks for several other mods and libraries, including Curios, GeckoLib, Quark, TerraBlender, AeroBlender, Vanilla Backport and Particular.

Additional mod-presence checks are available for other supported integrations.

These are optional. You do not need to install every listed mod to use Not Mine Legacy Core.

Individual Not Mine Legacy modules may have their own additional dependencies.

Not Mine Legacy is developed and maintained by the Temog Team.

The project draws inspiration from the creativity of Minecraft’s modding community, particularly older projects whose ideas deserve to be revisited.

Not Mine Legacy does not claim ownership of the original third-party projects from which individual modules may draw inspiration.

Original creators retain credit for their respective work. Individual NML modules will provide relevant attribution and licensing information where applicable.

Found a bug or encountered a compatibility issue?

Please report the Minecraft version, Forge version, installed Not Mine Legacy modules, and any relevant crash reports or logs through the project’s issue-reporting channel.

When reporting an issue, please specify whether it occurs with the core library alone or only when a particular module is installed.
