Tool Flow — Silk Fortune Switch

Keep mining without manually searching for the right tool. Tool Flow is a client-side Fabric utility that switches between Fortune and Silk Touch pickaxes, shovels and axes when you start mining a supported block.

Features

• Ores → Fortune: selects the highest available Fortune level on a suitable pickaxe.
• Stone → Silk Touch: switches back when you mine supported stone blocks.
• Soil and gravel → shovel; wood → axe: selects a suitable tool for the block.
• Optional full-inventory search: tools can stay outside the hotbar. A tool from your main inventory is swapped with the active hotbar slot; the displaced item moves into its previous inventory slot. Other hotbar slots are not rearranged.
• Minimal settings and a subtle HUD: rounded dark panels, blue switches and a short tool indicator that fades away after a switch.
• Czech / English switch: Czech is the default. Change the mod’s language immediately without changing Minecraft’s language.

Requirements

• Minecraft Java Edition 26.3
• Fabric Loader 0.20.1 or newer
• Fabric API 0.165.0+26.3 or newer for Minecraft 26.3
• Java 25 or newer

Install the JAR and Fabric API in your instance’s mods folder. Remove older Tool Flow / Silk Fortune Switch JARs before installing this version.

Controls

• K: open settings
• V: enable or disable automatic tool switching
• CZ / ENG, at the top right of settings: change the mod’s language

Both key bindings can be changed in Minecraft’s Controls menu. Settings save automatically in config/tool-flow.properties.

How it works

The mod reacts to mining input; looking at a block alone does not switch tools. It works in Survival and is inactive in Creative and Spectator modes. Hold a pickaxe, shovel or axe to use it. With full-inventory search enabled, you can also start with an empty hand. It does not take over when you hold a sword, food or building block.

Standard coal, iron, copper, gold, redstone, lapis, diamond and emerald ores are supported, including their deepslate variants, plus Nether gold and quartz. Ancient debris is not selected for Fortune. Silk Touch switching covers stone, deepslate, granite, diorite, andesite, tuff, calcite, netherrack, blackstone, basalt, smooth basalt and end stone. Shovels and axes use the game’s mining tags.

The selected tool must meet the block’s mining requirements. Candidate tools with one or fewer durability points remaining are skipped. If no suitable tool exists, the current tool remains selected and normal mining continues; this is not a guarantee against breaking your currently held tool.

Full-inventory search covers the 36 regular inventory and hotbar slots. It does not open backpacks, shulker boxes or chests, and does not search armor or offhand slots. Inventory swapping uses Minecraft’s normal inventory-click handling and does not operate while a menu is open or an item is held on the cursor. Items are not automatically restored to their original layout when you stop mining.

Multiplayer

Install Tool Flow on the client only; the server does not need this mod. Servers still decide whether inventory actions and drops are accepted. Some servers prohibit automatic tool switching or restrict inventory interactions; follow the rules of the server you play on. Compatibility with every server or anti-cheat is not guaranteed.

First stable release

Tool Flow 1.4.1 is the first stable release. The tested build was promoted from Beta without changing the JAR after the project author confirmed it working in-game. Compilation against Minecraft 26.3 and 93 automated checks covering selection, settings and translations passed. Compatibility can still differ between modpacks and servers.
