# Wasabi’s Tree

**Living forests for Minecraft 1.20.1.** Trees in Wasabi Trees don’t pop into existence. They grow from a sapling one stage at a time, each with its own DNA. Over hours of play they age, eventually topple over, rot away and leave young trees behind. Everything is built from vanilla blocks.

## Features

🌱 **Gradual growth.** Saplings grow stage by stage. The first logs appear after about 12 minutes; big species take hours to reach full size. Bone meal speeds up young trees.

🧬 **Real DNA.**
– Every tree has 11 genes: height, crown width, branching, leaf size, density, growth speed, maturity, trunk thickness, crown shape, lean and style.
– Saplings inherit genes from the nearest mature tree of their kind, so you can breed tall, fast or wide trees.
– One sapling in four mutates and surprises you.
– Wild forests share a regional character.

🌳 **26 species, each in 2–3 styles.**
– All vanilla trees.
– Willow, maple, baobab, redwood, snowy pine, dead tree, apple tree and palm tree.
– New: poplar, olive, cypress and stone pine.
– Giant mushrooms and Nether fungi.

🌲 **Giant trees.** Plant four saplings of the same kind in a 2×2 square to grow a giant with a 2×2 trunk. This works for every species, and giants also appear in the wild.

🍂 **A full life cycle.**
– Old trees eventually topple over.
– Fallen trunks rot away within minutes without leaving holes.
– Mature trees spread moss that turns into new saplings.
– Self-seeded young trees die off in deep shade, so forests thin out naturally.

🪓 **Timber!**
– An axe fells the whole tree, and the drops land at your feet.
– Sneak to break a single block.
– Cut a trunk by hand and the tree falls over.

🗺️ **Natural world generation.** Mixed-age forests with vanilla-like densities, occasional fallen logs, bee nests and boulders.

## Details
– **Config:** Growth speed, falling, decay, spreading, forest density, mutation chance and axe behaviour are all configurable in `config/wasabitrees-common.toml`.
– **Game speed:** Growth and decay follow the `randomTickSpeed` gamerule.
– **Commands:** `/wasabitrees info` for everyone; `grow`, `fell` and `stats` for operators.
– **Performance:** Tree data is stored per chunk and updates are budgeted, so large worlds don’t slow down.
– **Compatibility:** Protection and claim mods are respected. Modded biomes keep their own trees.
