Golem Barrel

Copper golems that sort into chests and dump the rest into a barrel.

Golem Barrel makes the vanilla copper golem a lot more useful as a sorter. Golems only put items into chests that already hold that item, and everything that doesn’t match goes into a barrel. Your sorting chests stay clean, and no random items end up in empty chests.

It changes as little as possible: walking, timing, animations, the 10-chest scan and the search range all stay vanilla.

✨ Features

• No more junk in empty chests: golems only fill a chest that already contains the item they’re carrying.
• Barrels as an overflow: once a golem has checked its chests (up to 10, like vanilla) and found no match, it puts the item into a barrel, whether the barrel is empty or not.
• Full barrels are skipped: the golem moves on to the next barrel with room. If no barrel has room, it uses an empty chest it already checked on that trip.
• Same-chunk priority: chests in the golem’s own chunk are checked first, (then the rest by distance, the same way vanilla does).
• Barrels don’t use up a chest check: they don’t count toward the 10-chest limit.
• Works across chunk borders: put the barrel in a neighbouring chunk. While that chunk is unloaded the golem waits like vanilla, then carries on as soon as the chunk loads.

🛠️ Ideal setup

1. Place a copper chest with a copper golem nearby.
2. Place your sorting chests and put one of each item you want sorted into them.
3. Place a barrel for everything else, in the same chunk or a neighbouring one.

The golem takes items from the copper chest. It fills the matching chests and sends everything else to the barrel.

Restart the game or server after editing the config. With both set to false, golems behave exactly like vanilla.

🖥️ Server-side

The mod only has to be installed on the server. Players can join with a vanilla client. In singleplayer, just install it like any other mod.
