ScriptedSMP

ScriptedSMP is a set of director tools for scripted SMPs and story servers. It helps you run takes, reset the set between retakes, give actors their lines and stage deaths, all from one command: /scriptedsmp (short alias: /ssmp).

It is a server-side Fabric mod. Players do not need to install anything and can join with a normal Minecraft client.

Supported version: Minecraft 1.21.11
Requires: Fabric Loader and Fabric API

Features

Snapshots and retakes

Get everyone to their marks, then run /scriptedsmp takeSnapshot. Run /scriptedsmp restoreSnapshot and the scene is put back the way it was.

Players: position, rotation, inventory, armor, offhand, health, food, XP and gamemode
The set: blocks, chest contents, signs and similar block data, plus every mob, item and other non-player entity around the actors
Anything that was broken, placed, killed or dropped during the take is reverted
Actors sitting on the death screen are respawned before they are put back
Snapshots are named, or timestamped automatically if you give no name
The recorded area around each actor can be changed with /scriptedsmp snapshotArea

Clapper

/scriptedsmp clap shows a 3, 2, 1 countdown with sound and then ACTION to everybody. The moment of ACTION is written to a log file with an exact timestamp and take number, so every actor’s recording shares the same sync point.

Cue cards

Give each actor private lines that appear on their action bar. The director moves everyone forward with a single command.

Director menu

/scriptedsmp settings opens an in-game menu with toggles for:

Hiding join and leave messages
Disabling advancements
Vanishing yourself from players and the tab list
A custom whitelist with a configurable kick message
Kicking players when they die

Scripted deaths

Players can die and drop their items while still keeping them, so a death scene does not cost anyone their inventory
Optional visual lightning at the place of death
/scriptedsmp killNextDmg <player> makes the next hit a player takes lethal, and the death message names the real cause
/scriptedsmp kill <player> for an instant staged death

All commands need operator level 2 (gamemaster) or higher.

Installation

Put the jar in your server’s mods folder together with Fabric API. Settings are stored in config/scriptedsmp.

Notes

Restoring a very large change happens in one tick, so expect a brief lag spike
Mobs and blocks are only recorded within the snapshot area around the actors
This mod is for dedicated servers. It does not load in singleplayer or LAN worlds
