Kerfwood

Trees are felled the way they are in real life: you notch the trunk with an axe until it is cut through, and then the whole tree falls over.

How to use

1. Hold any axe and look at the bottom log of a tree.
2. Press G (rebindable in Controls). Your character takes a stance at the trunk.
3. Press G again for each swing. Each hit cuts deeper into the trunk.
4. Press ESC to stop. The cut stays, so you can come back and finish it later.

When the trunk is cut through, the tree tips over away from you and crashes down. The drops land where the tree fell, and a stump stays at the cut.

Details

• The cut is made on the side you stand on: one of the four faces or one of the four corners. Cuts from different sides stay where they were made, and every hit counts towards the same tree.
• The number of hits depends on the tree: about 5 for a small oak, about 20 for a 2×2 spruce, about 26 for a dark oak. Better axes and Efficiency need fewer hits.
• Each hit costs one point of axe durability.
• Only natural trees can be felled. Logs a player placed are broken normally.
• The tree falls with a proper swing, hits the ground, bounces and rolls a little. Anything it lands on takes damage.
• Cocoa, vines and bee nests fall together with the tree. The bees come out angry.
• Notched logs and stumps have collision that matches their shape.
