Accept your appointment as Mary Poppins, take up an enchanted umbrella, and turn familiar wall decorations into little adventures. Beyond the Frame brings journeys for all 26 placeable vanilla paintings to Minecraft, with a practical magical toolkit and room for friends.

A different story behind every frame

Restore colour to Wasteland, bring a three-act production to life in Stage, and explore 24 more image-inspired journeys. Each of those portraits has its own setting, three named acts, and six ordered objectives: shrines, scaffold climbs, training halls, seaside voyages, fossil galleries, and more.

These are compact, guided excursions built from vanilla blocks and creatures—not replacement painting textures or a new set of custom paintings.

Practically perfect equipment

• Enchanted Umbrella: glide safely and help nearby accepted outing companions while actively using it.
• Carpet Bag: keep your belongings in a persistent, player-bound 54-slot inventory.
• Measuring Tape: assess players and creatures, find useful context, and choose a fitting painting with Reframe.
• A Spoonful of Sugar: offer condition-based help with fire, harmful effects, health, or player hunger.
• A Firm Word: interrupt trouble without dealing direct damage.

Abilities belong to the Mary role. You play Mary; the mod does not add a Mary NPC.

Make a day of it

Travel solo or invite friends into an Outing Party. Nearby accepted companions can join an opened painting, contribute to the excursion, and return to their own saved starting points. Party size is configurable; the default is six including Mary.

Non-Mary friends can join Mary’s outings without being given the entire toolkit.

Build your Picture Book

Open the Carpet Bag and press Book to track discoveries, completed journeys, excursion statistics, and optional observations.

Each journey has one image-specific observation to find. Complete the journey and discover its observation to make that picture Practically Perfect. Work toward mastery milestones at 5, 13, and 26 pictures.

Journey completion awards 100 XP once per player, per journey. Replays are for the experience and unfinished discoveries—not repeat XP farming. Mastery milestones award advancements, not extra power.

Your first outing

1. Install the mod and use the appointment letter to accept the Mary role. Servers may change acquisition settings.
2. Place an ordinary vanilla painting with enough wall space.
3. Want a particular painting? Crouch + right-click it with the Measuring Tape to open Reframe.
4. Crouch + right-click it with the Enchanted Umbrella to awaken it, then interact with the open painting to enter.
5. Follow the journey’s prompts. Use its return painting whenever you want to leave.

For friends: Mary uses /marypoppins outing invite <player>; the invited player uses /marypoppins outing accept <mary>. Stay nearby when Mary opens the painting and enter while the invitation window is open.
